Part-Time Winter Basketball League Positions

Are you looking for a fun, part-time job where you can stay active, work with kids, and be part of the community? The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Sports Program Assistants for the upcoming Orinda Youth Sports (OYS) Winter Basketball League!

Season Dates: Saturdays only, January 20 – March 14 (no games Feb. 14)
Shifts: 6 hours (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)
Pay: $16.50 – $24.50/hour (depending on experience and role)

What You’ll Do

• Help set up and take down basketball equipment

• Supervise the gym and keep things running smoothly

• Run the scoreboard/score clock

• Be a positive role model for young athletes

(And yes—there will be chances for more work in the spring leagues and summer camps!)

Receives direction from the Economic Development and Communications Specialist. May exercise technical and functional supervision over administrative support personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to the following)

• Prepares responses, proposals and presentations for Requests for Information and provides responsible, professional analytical assistance in the development, administration and implementation of economic development programs.
• Develops short- and long-range economic development plans; gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations.
• Coordinates and participates in the review of City projects, project plans, and discussions.
• Helps maintain a comprehensive inventory of available buildings and sites in the community for economic development purposes and distributes to perspective economic development clientele as requested.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. Additionally, the incumbent in this position may work in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required.

The Challenge

As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. You will be assigned to one of three shifts spanning the 24-hour day and these shifts will periodically change. In the Patrol Section you will work three 12 hour and 20-minute workdays and have four days off. If you are assigned to any other Section, you will work four 10-hour workdays with three days off. THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Library Division operates with a $4.4 million budget and 22 full-time employees in fiscal year 2024/2025. The San Rafael Public Library consists of three branches—Downtown, Pickleweed, and Northgate—and is part of the MARINet consortium. Exciting projects include a $3 million modernization of the Downtown branch, set for completion by July 2025, and a $2 million renovation of the Pickleweed branch, with construction beginning in August 2025. Additionally, the City is planning a new, joint Library and Community Center at Albert Park, while also focusing on operational improvements and championing innovative library programs and services.

THE POSITION

The Senior Library Assistant performs the most complex paraprofessional library work; assists patrons; implements programs, outreach, and marketing; supervises volunteer or part-time staff within a designated service area; and provides lead direction to other Library Assistants.

Overview:

The Senior Environmental Planner serves as an environmental compliance lead for critical infrastructure projects that provide safe, clean water to Santa Clara County. This role carries out environmental review and permitting for complex operations and maintenance activities for the Water Utility Enterprise, which includes the pipeline maintenance program. Examples of projects are stream gage improvements, pipeline turnout repairs, pump replacements, and culvert repairs. The planner will also provide expert oversight for other projects as needed.

This is a leadership position that will play a role in developing and executing integrated environmental strategies that protect and restore watersheds, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the long-term sustainability of Valley Water’s operations and maintenance activities.
