Job Description:  

The City Manager’s Office has a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

 

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research, and govern a technology assessment. The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Management Analyst and City Manager. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for up to four (4) interns who will assist on various municipal projects. Positions are considered for the following fields of interest:

 

• Capital Improvement Program (CIP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in capital improvement projects, design of civil infrastructure, and construction delivery procedures. Assist with project standards, standard specifications and drawings, CAD drafting, plan review, construction cost estimates, data collection and analysis.

 

• Transportation Planning/Traffic Engineering – Civil engineering majors with an interest in parking, transportation, and traffic engineering. Assist with creating parking zone signage, mapping, program evaluations, document organization and filing, field data collection and analysis, traffic studies, and plan reviews.

 

• Clean Water Program (CWP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in water resources, sanitary sewer rehabilitation, design, construction. Assist with project standards, standard specifications, plan review, construction cost estimates, data collection and analysis, and construction site visits.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA/BS Candidate or MA/MS Candidate in civil engineering or related field as described above is highly desirable
• Strong analytical, writing, research, and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
• Valid California Driver’s License (Class C)

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and web-based resources
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate workload

  DUTIES:

The primary duties will depend on the intern’s assigned position and associated field of interest and may include the following:

• • Assisting engineering project managers with administrative or technical tasks
  • Drafting engineering plans/standards in AutoCAD
  • Creating map displays using Google Earth or GIS
  • Gathering, compiling, and presenting data for engineering and construction projects
  • Organizing and tracking inspection reports, testing results, invoices, and other construction documentation
  • Conducting field assessments of the condition of streets, drainage/collection systems, and other infrastructure
  • Investigating and proposing responses to questions or inquiries from residents
  • Assist in other areas such as procurement, communication, public outreach, and public surveys.

 

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending availability and workload.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting for two full-time Animal Care Services Officer. Under close supervision, incumbents enforces State and County laws regarding stray, dangerous, rabid, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; removes dead animals from public and private properties; assist in feeding and cleaning animal enclosures; assist with euthanizations and disposal of animals in a humane and prescribed method and performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control; performs related work as assigned including assisting the public with drop off, pick up and adoption of animals as necessary.  This is a working level class in animal control, responsible for enforcing applicable regulations in a limited public officer capacity. Successful performance of the work requires skill in dealing with the public in difficult situations as well as a willingness to handle animals that may be injured or ill.

Animal Care Services is a division of the Sheriff's Department.  Animal Care Services provides services for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County and is located in Olivehurst, California.  Animal Care Services care for lost animals, injured and abandon animals, and a provide variety of services that protect both citizens and animals. Most importantly, they keep lost pets safe and happy so they can be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is seeking to fill the full-time exempt position of Senior Management Analyst II (Advanced Professional Temp).  The Senior Management Analyst (Advanced Professional Temp) will support the work of the newly formed Police Advisory and Accountability Committee (PAAC).

• Supports the public meeting process including coordinating agenda items for public meetings, memorializing meeting minutes and any actions taken by the PAAC.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

 

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

 

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. THE POSITION:  The City of San Mateo’s Community Development Department has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The Department, which has about 55 full time employees, includes the Building, Housing, Planning, Code Enforcement, & Business/Admin Divisions. The Management Analyst Intern will primarily support the Housing and Business/Admin Divisions and receive primary supervision from the Department’s Business Manager and Housing Manager, and project specific direction from the supervisor/manager primarily responsible for each specific project. The duration and start date of the internship are flexible, though summer interns typically start between mid-May and Mid-June. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
•    BA/BS or Masters Candidate 
•    Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
•    Experience conducting research and data analyses
•    Able to work independently with direction from supervisor
•    Interest in learning more about a career in local government

DUTIES: The primary projects will most likely include the following: 
•    Market Research / Data Analysis. Support the research and help prepare findings report on fee schedules across multiple jurisdictions to help the Business Manager prepare for the 2025 comprehensive fee study. 
•    Contracts / Grant Administration. Support the Housing Division Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) administration of contracts and grant funds for nonprofit recipients.
•    Housing Element Compliance / Certification. Support the Housing Division with implementation of Housing Element policies and programs.
•    Community Relations Commission Support. Support the Community Relations Commission, under the direction of the commission liaison, in coordinating commission meeting, preparing documents for commission review, and preparing commission documents for approval and filing with the City Clerk.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects to support Community Development Department special projects and operations, depending upon need, availability and interest.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for a Police Corporal in the Police Department. Under the general supervision of the designated Police Sergeant, leads and performs a wide variety of law enforcement duties involving crime prevention; protection of life and property and enforcement of all laws; including city ordinances; makes investigations, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court; serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned; provides information and assistance to the public. DUTIES:

• Performs all functions of a police officer assigned to patrol, investigations, or administration.
• Patrols assigned areas for the prevention and detection of crime, enforcement of laws, regulations, and ordinances.
• Responds to all calls for service and takes appropriate action.
• Acts as a patrol supervisor at crime incidents, disaster scenes and accidents until relieved by a higher-ranking officer. 
• Makes arrests, conducts traffic enforcement, prepares cases for trial, and appears in court as a witness.
• Participates in community events.
• Reviews reports written by officers.
• Acts as a shift supervisor/Watch Commander when the sergeant is not available or on another incident.
• Performs the duties of a Field Training Officer which includes: providing direct one on one training to the police officer recruits; completes daily and summary evaluations of recruits in training.
• Attends internal management meetings and provides status reports.
• Provides in-service training during quarterly training days.
• Develops, mentors and coaches subordinates.
• Completes special projects, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

 

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional education at a community college or university level course work in criminal justice and/or a related field is highly desirable.

 

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of current full-time sworn police officer experience and successful completion of probation at the time of appointment; and possession of an Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate.

 

Licenses: Must possess a valid California class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess a valid Intermediate certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) and possess and maintain firearms qualification.

 

Knowledge of:

• Organization, operation rules and regulations of the Police Department.
• Principles of the criminal justice system and administration, including traffic control and crime prevention; criminal investigation
• Rules of evidence and laws of arrest and court procedures.
• Investigation and identification techniques and equipment.
• Courtroom procedures and techniques for testifying.
• Applicable laws, codes, ordinances and court decisions.
• Computer applications related to the work.
• Techniques of first aid and CPR.
• Techniques for dealing with and solving the problems presented by a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often when relations may be confrontational or stressed.

 

 

Skill to:

• Operate the equipment and vehicles of the department in a safe and responsible manner.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, pass a detailed background investigation and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to hazardous materials and all-weather conditions.

 

Physical Demands: Must maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards, including mobility and physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects, lift and move individuals or objects weighing to 100 pounds; ability to work in a standard office setting and to operate a motor vehicle; vision to maintain firearms qualification, to read printed materials and a computer screen, discern colors and work in a night setting; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and before groups in person and over the telephone and radio.

 

SALARY:

$9,696.15 - $10,180.95- $10,689.99 - $11,224.48 - $11,785.71 per month.  Appointments are generally made at the first step in this range.

 

BENEFITS:

This position is eligible for benefits under the Police Officer Association Memorandum of Understanding.
