These positions are paid and have a five-month duration, starting February 3, 2025, and ending June 27, 2025. These positions work five days a week in small cohorts completing a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects.

The City of Auburn is looking for an Administrative Services Technician, a unique role where you'll contribute equally to our Finance and Human Resources departments!

ABOUT THE POSITION

We're seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable professional to make an immediate impact. Your time will be split equally between the two departments, with a primary focus on payroll processing. Beyond that, this role offers a variety of technical and paraprofessional work, including accounts payable and receivable, accounting, cash handling, budget, benefits administration, recruitment, customer service and other essential technical-level functions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

A paraprofessional classification requiring specialized administrative and technical skills to perform semi-complex, administrative, support and confidential duties. The role is distinguished from lower classifications by its scope of work and requirements for specialized training and technical proficiency. This classification performs recurring tasks and solves problems independently under general supervision from the department director or assigned supervisor, and does not exercise supervision over staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Perform  a varied range of administrative, operational and technical tasks supporting assigned programs and functions.
• Maintain accurate financial, human resources, and administrative records and data within various computer systems, including data entry, report generation, and resolving discrepancies.
• Participate in the implementation and testing of new technology systems and process improvements.
• Handle inquiries, provide information, offer technical information and guidance on procedures, rules and regulations to internal and external customers.
• Provide administrative support to department management and staff, including research, processing, and preparing reports, correspondence, and written materials.
• Maintain professional and courteous interactions with all contacts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Finance Duties:

• Participate in core finance processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, license and permit fee collection, and general financial transaction processing.
• Process and record financial transactions related to payroll and benefits, prepare related tax forms (e.g. 1099 and W2), and fee/levy data for tax rolls.
• Assist with budget preparation and monitoring, financial reporting, external auditor inquiries, and the review/approval of purchase requisitions.
• Participate in the implementation and adherence to Government Accounting Standards Board requirements and statements.
• Maintain financial and accounting records and data within systems, reconcile accounts, identify and resolve discrepancies, and prepare related reports.

Human Resources Duties:

• Participate in various functions supporting payroll, recruitment, benefits administration, leaves and other human resources functions.
• Participate in processing payroll including changes to wages, positions, benefits, leaves of absence, and related.
• Assist with benefits administration including processing forms, enrollments and changes, assisting employees, and responding to vendor inquiries.
• Intake and assist with worker’s compensation and insurance claim documentation.
• Apply personnel rules, MOUs, and relevant regulations to HR and payroll tasks, and assist with ensuring compliance, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive personnel and management information.

This is the supervisory-level class in the Transportation Engineering series. About the Department

The Public Works Department consists of approximately 72 full time employees and is responsible for maintaining and improving the City’s streets, parks, water and stormwater systems, traffic signals, fleet, and public buildings.  Public Works provides many of the basic services affecting the daily lives of everyone living, working, visiting, and commuting within the City, including:  

• 26 City-owned buildings/facilities and their grounds
• A fleet of over 250 vehicles and pieces of equipment
• 97 miles of streets
• Drinking water delivery for 16,000 customers
• Flood protection and stormwater management programs particularly along the San Francisco Bay, San Francisquito Creek and Atherton Channel
• 14 parks, 2 open spaces, 14 playgrounds, 2 dog parks, 9 sports fields, and 14 tennis/pickleball courts
• Efforts to preserve and expand the urban canopy, including 20,000 public trees
• Multimodal transportation services including 42 traffic signals, safe routes to schools and citywide shuttle programs. 

The department has nearly a $40 million operating budget supported by over 25 different special/dedicated funding sources for the varied programs and services provided to the community. In addition, the City has an approximate $100 million capital improvement program, in part due to a successful track record in pursuing grants from a variety of local, state and federal sources. Some of the exciting efforts on the horizon include efforts to protect the San Francisco Bay shoreline and adjacent community from sea level rise; efforts to eliminate the City’s reliance on fossil fuels through building and fleet electrification; making investments in transportation safety through strategic quick-build projects and large infrastructure changes like a pedestrian/bicycle undercrossing at Caltrain; and ensuring the equitable delivery of services throughout the entire city in alignment with the goals and programs developed as part of the city’s first environmental justice element underway.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the general direction, the PEO performs a variety of law enforcement support duties, with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking regulations. The PEO performs technical field and office work to enforce appropriate codes, laws, and regulations and to execute related programs pertaining to on-street and off-street public parking within the City of Mill Valley.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

• Patrol assigned routes on foot and/or driving a parking enforcement vehicle.
• Enforce parking laws, codes, and regulations.
• Identify vehicles in violation of parking laws, codes, and/or regulations, and issue appropriate citations or remedies.
• Collect coins deposited in meters.
• Prepare statistical reports on activities, as requested.

• Explain code and policy requirements.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot computer programs, software and other related equipment used to perform required duties.

The North Tahoe Fire Protection District is currently accepting applications for current and future job openings from qualified individuals to serve on the chipping crew. These positions are grant-funded, seasonal positions assigned to a 40-hour work week. These positions are returning to the fire district in 2025, and we’ll be hiring three people to operate the chipping crew.  This position is expected to be active from approximately May through November.  The actual start and end dates will be dependent on weather and snow conditions and may be extended beyond 6 months, but no more than 9 months from the employment start date.  The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  

The Chipping Crew Members work under the direct supervision of the Division Chief of Fire and Life Safety or their designee.  

The primary purpose of this crew is to operate a residential chipping program for the local community. This includes responding to chipping requests, traveling to those addresses with a truck and chipper, chipping the material, ensuring a clean site upon leaving, potentially hauling and dumping the material at a temporary holding site, assisting with loading, and ensuring activities are adequately tracked. The applicant must be comfortable working in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and lifting objects frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.  Chipping crew members will also assist with community workdays utilizing the truck and chipper or assisting with cutting and hauling combustible materials and filling green waste dumpsters.

The Procurement Specialist reports to the Manager, Materials and Inventory Controls and is responsible for the acquisition of bus parts, equipment, supplies, and maintenance services for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans).

Essential Functions & Duties:

• Receive requisitions and process the purchasing of bus parts, equipment, supplies, and maintenance services.
• Assist with locating or determining appropriate bus part numbers, descriptions, catalogs and sources for items.
• Liaison between vendors and Stores staff to resolve purchasing issues.
• Work with finance and maintenance department staff to maintain vendor relationships and ensure contract compliance including timely payment of invoices.
• Track expenditures throughout the year. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
• Five (5) years of full-time professional experience buying bus parts, automotive (light or heavy- duty) parts, or machine tool parts.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

The County of Glenn is seeking an Assistant Director of Public Works who is a strategic, collaborative, and confident leader with effective communication skills. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead complex engineering projects that provide essential services throughout Glenn County. Experience:

• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible support experience with a public agency working in building inspection, planning, or engineering or equivalent private sector experience with a high level of public contact and experience explaining procedures and regulations.

License:

• This classification requires the ability to travel independently within and outside of City limits.
• Possession of a Building Permit Technician certification from the International Code Council within the probationary period and throughout employment.
