This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs booking procedures, including receiving, booking and assigning prisoners to cells; performing body searches; fingerprinting, and photographing prisoners, etc.
• Maintains custody of prisoners’ private property.
• Maintains the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility; monitors security cameras and door warning lights; screens and monitors visitors. Inspects all of inmates’ incoming and outgoing mail and telegrams.
• Inspects facilities regularly.
• Monitors the condition and activities of prisoners.
• Prepares prisoners for court appearances; provides transportation as necessary.
• Administers First Aid in emergency situations.
• Performs general office work, including but not limited to entering computer data, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Prepares and submits required records and reports.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

** These positions work alternate shifts which will cover a 24-hour operation.  Successful applicants may be required to work alternative hours, which may include swing shift, graveyard shift, including weekends and/or holidays. **

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer conflict resolution skills, and writing skills, as well as be competent with computers and related software, e.g., report management, and MS Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of principles, codes, regulations and laws governing records management of a police department.  Additionally, the Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, prioritize, knowledge of complex filing systems, and be available for shift work.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Processes and maintain a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.

Description 

Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment is responsible to act as a liaison to the Department’s flourishing enrichment (after school) program and ensure the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. This includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs Supervised Play at Old Mill Elementary School and Center of Play at the Mill Valley Community Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, independent contractors, and part-time staff, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community. The Recreation Specialist- Enrichment will assist other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in elementary aged programs, ideally in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in delivering kindergarten, elementary and/or youth programming, etc. is preferred.

NOTE: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position for the Mill Valley Arts and Recreation Department.  

DEFINITION: Communicate with participants, families, instructors, staff and elementary school sites to coordinate class schedules, registrations, and program needs for the TK-5th grade After School Enrichment programs. Hours are approximately Monday-Friday, 12:30pm-5:30pm. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

• Facilitates recreation activities for specific age group: Transitional Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 

• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs and activities. 

• Processes program payments promptly and thoroughly. 

• Programs enrichment classes for each season (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).  

• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget. 

• Works with local School District, PTAs, and community groups in developing, promoting, and providing programs and activities. 

• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively and professionally with schools, staff, parents, and children. 

• Monitors the day-to-day operations of the programs, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials, staff, and supplies. 

• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on program effectiveness. 

• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes. 

• Creation and development of new programs, as needed. 

• Accurately maintain attendance records. 

• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably. 

• Perform related duties as required. 

• Must be able to lift 50lbs.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for Senior Engineers!

The Department?

The Public Works Department is comprised of Regulatory Compliance, Engineering, Field Maintenance, Facilities/Fleet, Wastewater Treatment, and Asset Management Divisions. Each division is led by one of two Deputy Directors, who report to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, streetlights, traffic signals, publicly owned facilities, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), pump stations, a major lagoon, dams, and levees; as well as solid waste and environmental programs. The City of San Mateo wastewater treatment facility and collection system are undergoing major renovation projects over the next five years valued over $100 million dollars through the Clean Water Program. The Department is responsible for regulatory compliance related to Stormwater, Pretreatment, Green Infrastructure, and other environmental programs, as well as public outreach to raise awareness to the general public and other stakeholders about these issues.

The Position

One (1) vacancy will focus on general capital improvement projects (streets, storm, bridges, etc.), one (1) vacancy will focus on construction and maintenance of facilities at the wastewater treatment plant, and one (1) vacancy will focus on private development reviews.

The Senior Engineers in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) sections supervise and participate in the conduct of complicated engineering planning, design, and investigation activities. The Senior Engineer in the Development Services (DS) section will lead staff, consultants, and applicants through the private development permitting processes.

Some duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise and participate in the development of designs, plans, specifications, and estimates for the construction of public works projects.
• Coordinate with contractors, construction managers, construction inspectors, and the design engineers to resolve issues during construction.
• Coordinate with the staff at the WWTP especially the Plant Manager, Operations Superintendent, and Maintenance Superintendent to make sure the WWTP operations and maintenance needs are incorporated into the projects as well as the impacts to ongoing operations during construction are considered and addressed.
• Inspect project sites to assist in solution of difficult problems; interpret specifications and City policy and make change orders.
• Review plans for construction prepared by private engineers.
• Check computations and specified materials for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Upgrade City standard plans and specifications; review subdivision and parcel maps.
• Serve as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards, and committees on public works engineering matters.
• Prepare periodic project status reports.
• Prepare various applications for state and federal grants.
• Review and make recommendations on technical reports and studies.
• Assist in the preparation of the capital improvement plan and budget.
• Participate in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans, specifications, studies, and reports.
• Coordinate engineering-related activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Confer with staff regarding project priorities and programs.
• Assist in preparing and administering the operating budget.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate professional and technical subordinates.

The Position
