The Authority is currently recruiting for a part-time position of Environmental Stormwater Inspector to support the West Valley cities/Town stormwater inspection programs. These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with federal and local water quality regulations.

The Authority is currently working to advance multiple stormwater initiatives, such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern, such as mercury and PCBs. The Environmental Stormwater Inspector may support these initiatives. An Environmental Stormwater Inspector also responds to complaints of illegal discharges

Under general supervision, the Landscape Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, including parks, park facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, irrigation systems and controllers, trees, and medians; uses and operated a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Performs maintenance and repair activities of City parks and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including parks, recreation facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, trees, and medians.

• Performs a variety of landscape construction and maintenance duties, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees; trimming and pruning trees in street landscaped areas; performing weed abatement using a chemical sprayer; irrigating, mowing, and fertilizing turf; removing fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris; raking leaves and clearing debris from walkways, fields, and other facilities; picking up trash and emptying receptacles.

• Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; changes and adjust heads; maintains controllers; participates in performing irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.

• Maintains parks and landscaped areas in a clean and safe condition, including picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles; cleaning and maintaining restrooms.

• Operates and maintains a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment and hand and power tools related to the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities.

• Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required

• Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.

• Maintains accurate logs, reports, and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.

• Receives and acts upon complaints, referrals, and concerns from the public; responds to and performs work in emergency situations as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or related facilities is desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B Driver’s License by time of appointment; possession and maintenance of Qualified Applicator certificate issued by the State of California [7/11/25 NOTE - QUALIFIED APPLICATOR CERTIFICATE WILL BE REMOVED IN REVISED JOB DESCRIPTION].

Benefits Overview:

The City offers a healthy cafeteria benefits program including choices among plan options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short and long-term disability. 

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employees who have experienced a 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation

Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year. 

Vacation: Employees can earn 120 hours a year

The City of Marysville is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Public Works Director; this recruitment will fill 1 vacancy and create an eligible list.  

Reporting directly to the City Manager, this position is responsible for executive direction, strategic leadership, and management of the Public Works Department, including City maintenance workers and capital improvement projects. 

As the principal administrator of the Public Works Department, the Director; plans, organizes, directs, reviews and manages all department activities and functions including Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Streets, Public Facilities, Wastewater Treatment/Sewage, and Storm Water Management.

The Director also coordinates departmental activities with other City departments, outside agencies, community groups and individuals; and provides highly complex professional advice and support to the City Manager and City Council; assures department compliance with and enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes; manages and supervises staff; serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team.

REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education and Certification

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar major.

Licenses: Possess valid California Class C Driver’s License.

Experience

Incumbents must have a minimum of three (3) years of managerial experience directly involving municipal services such as public works, public utilities, capital improvement project management, parks maintenance and management, and/or street and facilities maintenance.

The Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Technician I/II. Under general supervision, Public Works Technicians perform a variety of routine to journey level sub-professional technical, field, and office civil engineering work in a variety of technical areas.

The current vacant Public Works Technician I/II position is in the Road Operations - Permitting Section of the Road Services Division.

The Road Maintenance Division of County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is responsible for routine and emergency repairs to over 315 miles of road surfaces, culverts, shoulders, drainage facilities, and roadside vegetation on roads within the public right-of-way of San Mateo County's unincorporated districts.

Public Works Technician I is the entry level class of this technical support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn technical support and County procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is flexibly staffed with Public Works Technician II and incumbents are expected to advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualification of the higher-level class.

Public Works Technician II is the journey level class of this series, fully competent to independently perform a variety of responsible technical support duties. This class is distinguished from the Senior Engineering Aide class which is specialized in scope and technical functions.

The ideal candidate for this position has the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Familiarity and experience with permitting, plan review, or other technical clerical work
• Communicate effectively and work professionally with the public and co-workers. 
• Has field experience related to utility construction projects.
• Has experience in construction or inspection of construction projects
• Read and interpret engineering and architectural plans and regional maps. Understanding of construction terminology and standards.
• Organize workload and work independently in the field and office.
• Create documents, reports and maps with Microsoft suite applications, AutoCAD and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Provide technical support to a public works field such as engineering, traffic, mapping, surveying, drafting, construction, or related technical support field.
• Understand California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Caltrans standards and regulations.
• Create documents, reports, and maps with Microsoft suite applications, AutoCAD, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Sit, stand, and lift signs as needed for QA/QC.
• Assist Traffic Engineer with development of traffic control plans, striping plans, etc. as directed.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide information to the public and other governmental agencies, in person or over the telephone, regarding County procedures and regulations, facility locations, plan requirements and property ownership, which may require the interpretation of policies and procedures.
• Ensure permit applications are complete, accurate, and comply with County regulations and public works standards
• Obtain and distribute copies of maps, land descriptions and similar information.
• Maintain accurate records and files.
• Develop and update permanent files for County retention.
• Use and perform minor maintenance and cleaning on standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work.
• Use specialized equipment to develop and produce copies of maps, drawings and blueprints.
• Assist in preparing channelization, traffic control and related plans and drawings.
• Investigate public complaints regarding traffic conditions.
• Maintain and analyze records regarding accidents and traffic incidents.
• Collect and maintain records or traffic counts and similar data by placing traffic counters in the field and collecting and recording information.
• Conduct radar speed surveys.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

• I level: High school diploma with mathematics courses.
• II level: Two years' experience in providing technical support to a related public works field such as engineering, drafting, construction, surveying or related technical support field.
