The City Manager’s Office is responsible for providing support and advice to the City Council, offering leadership and legislative policy support for departments, fostering community partnerships and interagency collaboration, championing efforts to support citywide initiatives and efforts to increase organizational development and resiliency. Within the City Manager’s Office, the Communications & Legislative Affairs Office leads efforts to strategically promote and coordinate communication among all City departments, and to inform the public and media/press on Fremont’s innovative programs, services, and best practice.

DEFINITION

The City of Live Oak Internship Program is designed to attract, develop and mentor innovative individuals interested in pursuing a career in the public sector. The program seeks dedicated students who, through their academic achievement and/or employment history, have demonstrated high potential for a career in local government. Interns are encouraged to apply for full-time positions with the City after their internship is completed.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Interns generally work under close supervision and perform simple or routine tasks while learning to perform the more difficult and responsible ones. Interns are hired as limited term employees and employment service is dependent on the length of the project or the particular City service needs.

Intern positions are by their nature temporary employment and Interns are not eligible for City benefit programs unless specifically approved in writing by the City Manager.

The work schedule is typically part-time 15-20 hours per week with flexibility to work 30 to 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the Intern and the City program assigned. Interns with significant experience in their assigned area may be eligible to move along the assigned Salary Band with the specific approval of the City Manager.

Intern positions are not permanently funded and may be terminated at any time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• May review and route routine planning documents, petitions, permits, packets and records; analyze environmental checklists and environmental information forms and make specific recommendations following department procedures;
• May assist professional and technical staff with special projects including surveying, data gathering and reporting, analyses and computerized report presentations;
• May respond to basic inquiries from the general public and resolve issues related to the City's planning and zoning procedures and specific permits; research and provide information to City staff and the general public regarding land use issues and standard environmental documentation;
• May perform a variety of activities relating to the development of financial and statistical reporting, including accumulating, analyzing and tracking of revenues and expenditures; analyzes financial trends and develops projections of costs and funding opportunities.
• May conduct surveys, research, and analysis of various departmental issues; may update procedure and policy manuals;
• May answer phones and/or assist the public or others including such tasks as taking messages, responding to questions or requests for assistance, screening and referring to sources of information, providing forms and explaining procedures for completion;
• May prepare bills, orders, notes and receipts, permits, licenses; perform basic arithmetic operations; receive fees when the amount is readily obtainable by simple computations, or from fixed schedules; post data, keep records, and prepare statistical or other types of reports in accordance with predetermined forms and procedures.

The City of Sunnyvale is accepting applications for the Regular, Full-Time Maintenance Worker 2 position with five current vacancies in the Water Distribution Division (4) and Sewer and Storm Division (1) in the Environmental Services Department.

The Maintenance Worker 2 will perform a broad range of duties in the basic construction and maintenance trades. This position generally works as a member of a crew, but may be given independent assignments and may, under direction, lead a small crew of trainees or temporary workers and assist with training. This position is subject to callback for after-hour emergencies and after hours on-call/standby duty.

About the Department

The mission of the San Jose Police Department is to create safe places to live, work and learn through community partnerships. 

Position Duties

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, performs complex and responsible technical and clerical work for the Director of Human Resources and as administrative support to the City's Human Resources Department. Completes related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this position is a Human Resources generalist performing a wide range of personnel assignments in administering and processing health and welfare benefits; managing the administrative duties associated with the Personnel Board and overseeing the preparation and management of all employee requisition and action forms; managing the office and providing administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, the Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Including but not limited to maintaining frequent, sensitive and critical contacts with public and private agencies, other departments, professionals and officials; transmits information, decisions and directives. Answers inquiries by phone or email; investigates and resolves complaints or provides information, explains departmental or City procedures; exercises judgment in giving information and proper disposition of problems; composes correspondence and prepares reports. Processes and manages distribution retiree health reimbursement checks. Administers Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Program, tracks employee driving records and issues quarterly department list of commercial drivers’ medical expirations. May assist in responding to internal and external surveys. May assist department personnel with data entry on applicant tracking program, proctoring Civil Service examinations, in administering certification of active Civil Service Employment Lists using applicant tracking program, and assists with City-wide events. Processes employee separations and cafeteria plan worksheets, enters employee information into ERP system, tracks employee trainings; and processes invoices.

Provides support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s). Administers the documentation requirements of the 1986 Immigration and Control Act. Prepares and processes required Human Resources’ forms, such as new employee forms and employee Action Forms. Assists with preparation and publication of the employee newsletter. Maintains and orders office supplies and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; speaks to and direct large groups; Interacts positively and cooperate with co-workers, responds politely to customers, works as a team member, functions under demanding time pressure, responds in a positive manner to supervision, attends work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. Understands and applies instructions, rules, regulations and policies including the City’s Rules and Regulations of the Classified Service; analyzes, processes and schedules detailed work accurately; learns, understands, and communicates employee benefit parameters and regulations, learns and uses Microsoft Office Suite applications, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), applicant tracking system and other City software programs. Transcribes proceedings at meetings of commissions, boards or special committees; exercises good judgment in matters of a confidential nature; works independently in absence of supervision.

Knowledge of: Appropriate English grammar and spelling; current office equipment and methods including operation of computer programs, including advanced, competent use of Microsoft Word; record keeping and organizational practices; basic arithmetic; and certain federal, state and municipal personnel regulations.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent and an Associate of Arts (AA) degree.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in administrative and Human Resources technical work that involved regular contact with the public.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

Experience must include completion of an accredited residency in an applicable field and two years of experience as a licensed Physician working in a specialty area such as disease control and adult health or maternal and child health.

Desirable qualifications include a degree in Public Health, experience in working with community groups, and Board Certification in a Medical Specialty relevant to public health such as family medicine, pediatrics, or preventive medicine.

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) is seeking an exceptional, process-orientated professional to serve as the Director of Housing Programs to assist with planning, organizing, managing, and providing administrative direction and oversight for all functions and activities of the Housing Programs Department which administers the various assistance programs the AHA operates. Experience in technical support, managing networks, or other relevant information technology work may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
