These positions are grant-funded, seasonal positions assigned to a 40-hour work week. These positions are returning to the fire district in 2025, and we’ll be hiring three people to operate the chipping crew.  This position is expected to be active from approximately May through November.  The actual start and end dates will be dependent on weather and snow conditions and may be extended beyond 6 months, but no more than 9 months from the employment start date.  The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  

The Chipping Crew Members work under the direct supervision of the Division Chief of Fire and Life Safety or their designee.  

The primary purpose of this crew is to operate a residential chipping program for the local community. This includes responding to chipping requests, traveling to those addresses with a truck and chipper, chipping the material, ensuring a clean site upon leaving, potentially hauling and dumping the material at a temporary holding site, assisting with loading, and ensuring activities are adequately tracked. The applicant must be comfortable working in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and lifting objects frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.  Chipping crew members will also assist with community workdays utilizing the truck and chipper or assisting with cutting and hauling combustible materials and filling green waste dumpsters.

THE POSITION

The main job of a Library Page is putting books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines back on the shelves and preparing the library for opening and closing. The ability to quickly and accurately sort things alphabetically and numerically is required. This is an ideal job for someone who enjoys organizing and who can work quietly on their own.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, sorts, shelves, straightens, relocates, and searches for library materials, re-orders and organizes materials as needed, provides basic directional information to patrons, performs basic circulation duties using computer software, performs physical tasks to support library programs and procedures, performs closing procedures, and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Sorts and shelves materials, assists at public service desks; inspects materials for wear and damage and does basic mending of same; keeps books and periodical shelves in order; assists in taking inventory of books; performs basic custodial tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of: Basic clerical functions, principles of alphabetical and numerical filing, basic record keeping procedures.

Ability to: Sort material quickly and accurately in alphabetic or numeric order; follow oral and written directions; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to library patrons, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Must be physically able to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, kneel, push wheeled carts, lift, reach overhead, go up and down stairs, and use a step stool.

Availability for evening and Saturday shifts is required.

THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. • Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques.

The Position

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division.  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 
 
Experience:  Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work in the design and construction of water and wastewater projects including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
 
Education:   Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, or a closely related field with major work in civil engineering.  A master's degree is desirable.
 
Licenses and Certificates: 

1. Possession and maintenance of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil or Mechanical) in the State of California.  

2. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license.

Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1,000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid CALIFORNIA Class C Operator's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record.

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain one

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Communications Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for the Police Department and City.  Responsibilities are centered on extensive contact with the public over the telephone, in both emergency and non-emergency situations to receive, transmit, and provide factual information and assistance.  All activities are performed within specified legal guidelines.  Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.
