THE POSITION

The roles in the Accounting series support the City’s finance team by performing complex accounting tasks, preparing and reconciling financial data, assisting with the payroll and budget processes, and delivering responsive customer service.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the Accounting Technician classification has a solid background in the municipal accounting process and regulatory compliance, can prepare clear and accurate financial reports, has some experience with payroll software, Excel, and payroll processing, and communicates effectively while working collaboratively and maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

The successful candidate will have experience supporting month-end, quarterly, and year-end accounting and reporting activities, and may assist with payroll-related filings, labor cost analysis, and audit support. This role requires knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, financial reporting and office systems, applicable laws, and customer service practices, along with the ability to perform technical accounting tasks. Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible technical level experience in accounting or finance to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge and abilities. Experience performing fiscal record keeping or accounting work in a government finance environment is desirable. 
• Training: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college in business, accounting, finance or a related field.

Senior Accounting Assistant

• Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
• Experience: Three years of experience similar to that of Accounting Assistant II with the City of San Rafael.  
• Education: An Associate of Arts with course work in accounting or bookkeeping.  
• Supplemental course work in accounting, office management, computer science or related field is desirable.

Accounting Assistant I/II

• For AA I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with some course work in accounting preferred;

he Senior Project Manager is responsible for the developing, managing, and administering capital funded design and construction of projects of the infrastructure and capital project development department for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). 

The Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects Department oversees the delivery of major bus fleet and facilities infrastructure projects for SamTrans. The department’s projects include design and construction of zero emission infrastructure (battery electric bus (BEB) charging infrastructure and hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) infrastructure) for SamTrans's revenue and non­revenue fleet of nearly 400 vehicles, sea level rise and flood mitigation structures, bus administration, transportation, and maintenance buildings, and other structures at SamTrans' North Base and South Base Maintenance Facilities. 

 

 

 

Essential Functions & Duties

• Responsible for overall management of scope, schedule, budget, and quality of assigned capital projects from initiation to closeout. 
• Manage projects through design, procurement, and construction. 
• Manage consultant and in-house staff in formal reviews of design submittals, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules. 
• Oversee construction contract to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

This is a journey technical level position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of duties assigned. The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. The County Executive’s Office of the County of San Mateo is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Clerk of the Assessment Appeals Board/ Administrative Assistant I.  
   
The mission of the Assessment Appeals Board (AAB) is to conduct fair and impartial property assessment appeal hearings in a timely and efficient manner for the property taxpayers of San Mateo County. The board’s objective is to ensure applicants’ properties are assessed at fair market value, in accordance with applicable law, based on properties similar in size and utility. The AAB consists of three part-time commissioners and the clerk. The mission-critical clerk’s position is fast-paced and demanding, characterized by extensive use of the computer and telephone to provide administrative support for the AAB and their associated proceedings.
   
The AAB acts on behalf of the Board of Supervisors and is independent from the County Assessor’s Office.

Examples of Duties

Duties of the Clerk of the Assessment Appeals Board include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide public notice of Appeals Board meetings.
• Respond to taxpayer inquiries regarding their application and Board hearing procedures.
• Ensure that the applications meet the legal requirements for completeness and timeliness and are submitted on the proper form.
• Maintain correspondence with the State Board of Equalization.
• Prepare meeting agendas and provide the information needed to the Board members for the hearings.
• Schedule and clerk the hearings.
• Record final decisions of the Appeals Board and notify all affected parties.
• Maintain copies of evidence presented at the hearings.
• Perform record keeping and maintain confidentiality of all records.
• Perform arithmetic calculations.
• Act as back-up for the receptionist and co-workers.
• Assist with various projects or activities as assigned.
• Maintain and purge files as required.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have proven organizational and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and handle time-sensitive matters.
• Possess strong analytical skills and have keen attention to detail.
• Maintain complete and accurate legal records.
• Produce quality work under fluctuating workloads with minimal supervision.
• Have proven proficiency in operating standard office software and equipment.
• Compose effective routine-to-complex correspondence.
• Effectively apply established procedures and codes, including property tax assessment guidelines.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.  

The ideal candidate will also have worked as the Clerk for an Assessment Appeals Board or a similar board or will have worked in a similar capacity in a high-level office. The exceptional candidate will have knowledge of the methods used in the valuation of property for tax assessment purposes, California property tax laws, and the State Board of Equalization guidelines. 

This is a limited-term position. Limited-term positions are full-time, fully benefited, temporary positions. This current position is funded for up to three years, depending on the department’s needs.  Limited Term employees receive medical and dental benefits, like regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan (401-A).

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify could be four years of increasingly responsible administrative or clerical experience.

 
Knowledge of: 

• Modern office methods and equipment.
• Sub-professional accounting, bookkeeping, and fiscal procedures, if applicable.

Skill/Ability to:

• Learn, interpret, and apply the laws, regulations, codes, and guidelines governing the operations of the Assessment Appeals Board and the department. 
• Read and interpret legal records to determine property ownership and evaluate ownership declarations.
• Effectively apply established procedures and codes, including property tax assessment guidelines. 
• Organize and plan time efficiently for assessment appeals casework and Appeals Board hearings. 
• Compose routine-to-complex correspondence from brief instructions. 
• Use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines. 
• Work well independently, without close supervision.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions efficiently and effectively.
• Maintain complete and accurate legal records. 
• Effectively handle stressful interactions with others.

Ideal qualifying experience includes: 

• Acting as the clerk for government boards or commissions.
• Preparing and preserving the associated agendas, meeting minutes, and resulting documents. 
• Responding to a high volume of inquiries from individuals who have complex issues to resolve with those boards or commissions.

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: Pass/Fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%).

Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department at Village Park. We offer 3 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), and Afternoon Owls (3 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. Activities are designed to foster a healthy child that develops an early love of learning. Village Park Preschool programs strive to create an environment inspiring each child’s individual creativity and self-expression. Children participate in arts/crafts, music, body movement, basic science, cognitive games, creative/dramatic play, cooking, circle and story time, fine and gross motor skill building, and phonics awareness.

Preschool Aide

The City of Burlingame is looking for a passionate, caring, and creative Preschool Aide. Under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Aide supports the lead teacher in providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children. This includes helping with classroom activities, supervising children, and ensuring a safe and clean learning environment.

Essential Duties

• Assist in implementing activities that support early childhood education and socialization.
• Assist with a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time.
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed.
• Maintain and care for supplies, equipment, and the facility.
• Set up daily snack.
• Change diapers and support toilet training.
• Complete assigned paperwork, including timecards and incident and accident reports.
