The City is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions to work in the theatres at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.  Under the direction of the Technical Supervisors and the theatre department leads, the Stagehands assist with a variety of tasks related to theatre operations and maintenance.  The schedule will involve working up to 19 hours per week, depending on assignment.  The schedule includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.  On occasion, the position may involve working additional hours in a week.

Primary responsibilities:  

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of theatre sound, lighting, and/or rigging systems during rehearsals, performances, concerts, and meetings
• Assist in loading, unloading, fabrication, installation, and operation of lighting, sound, wardrobe and rigging systems and manipulation of props in theatrical settings
• Perform heavy manual labor

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board
• Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record

Immediate Opening for Per Diem Library Assistant I (Circulation Services)

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking an energetic individual to provide a wide variety of library support work. Duties include but are not limited to the following: respond to patron in-person and telephone requests for library materials, services and information; check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines; assist in order and receiving books, records, periodicals, and other library materials; maintain statistics of library use; handle patron complaints; assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and placing requests for materials not available. This recruitment is for one 15-hour Per Diem Library Assistant I position that supports Circulation Services at each of the three San Mateo Public Library locations. An eligibility list will be created for future openings in this classification.

SALARY AND HOURS: $28.76 per hour (Step 1). Below is the starting schedule for the Per Diem Library Assistant I position that may be changed in the future to meet the operational needs of the library. These positions are currently scheduled at two of the three San Mateo Public Library locations, Main and Hillsdale branches.  Availability at all three San Mateo Public Library branches is required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by clerical and specialized college level courses in library science; one year of experience performing general clerical or related work in a public library system.

ABILITY TO: Learn library practices and procedures, and the location of materials in the libraries; perform a variety of library technical and clerical work with speed and accuracy; assist patrons in the location and  use of library materials; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; speak and write clearly; learn the use of appropriate library automation systems; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with numbers and alphabet accurately; type at a speed necessary for adequate job performance.

What You’ll Do

• Compile, analyze, and prepare updates for the department budget and assist in the development and monitoring of budget.

• Analyze cost and revenue trends in multiple funding sources; prepare a variety of fiscal, administrative and management reports, and oversee fixed asset inventory and equipment replacement program.

• Perform research and statistical analyses on administrative, fiscal, personnel, and operational problems.

• Identify, recommend, and develop department policy changes which are submitted to the Fire Chief for final review; review and analyze operating procedures to determine if opportunities exist to streamline processes or better serve our customers and make recommendations as necessary.

• Participate in the development and installation of new or revised programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.

• Assist with administering contracts including those relating to department projects; monitor programs for compliance with applicable regulations.
