The Police Officer Trainee position is the entry-level role for those who have not yet attended the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified academy.

The academy lasts six months and is the first step in your law enforcement career. Upon successful completion, officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws.

Starting salary for trainees is $30.68 per hour while attending the academy, plus excellent benefits.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for providing high quality, safe and effective maintenance, operation and construction of streets, parks, storm drainage and related infrastructure. The Department is under new leadership with a renewed focus on master infrastructure planning, proactive capital maintenance and replacement, traffic engineering and customer service. Pipeline public projects include completion of the Civic Center Master Plan, design and bid of the new Santa Teresa Fire Station, a $7 million pavement rehabilitation project, a $3 million San Ysidro Park remodel project, and completion of Traffic Impact Fee Study. The City is processing multiple large private projects including an almost one million square foot Amazon data center as well as multiple residential subdivisions and multi-family projects.

THE POSITION
The City Engineer/Transportation Engineer reports to the Public Works Director and exercises and is afforded significant authority and discretion to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Division which is comprised of two sections--Capital Improvements and Development Review. The Engineering Division is responsible for the design, bid, management and inspection of City-owned capital infrastructure and facility projects. The Division is also responsible for the review of private development projects, issuance of typical engineering permits, and related inspections. Additionally, the position coordinates the internal Traffic Safety coordination including preparation of warrant studies and other engineering studies. The City Engineer will be the primary point of contact with the City’s Utility Department facilitating coordination of street and utility capital projects. The City Engineer may serve in an acting capacity Director in the absence of the Public Works Director.

The successful candidate will:

Examples Of Essential Duties:

1. Develop goals and objectives, organize, direct, advise and assist the activities of the Engineering Division, including the preparation of plans and specifications, engineering design, public works inspections, public works engineering office activities and field engineering. Make policy recommendations on City standards, and codes, regarding traffic, infrastructure, and public works activities.
2. Perform preliminary engineering review and consultation on various public and private projects with various developers and designers and project engineers, review maps, plans, specifications, and projects for compliance with sound engineering practice and existing laws, and review initial studies and environmental impact reports for adequate mitigation of infrastructure impacts.
3. Assume management responsibility for assigned engineering activities and operations of the Engineering Division including conducting traffic engineering and transportation planning studies, preparing traffic control plans, and making sound recommendations for improved traffic control services.
4. Prepare complex staff reports and memorandums regarding capital projects, development within the community, and traffic/transportation related matters.
5. Receive and responds to citizen complaints/concerns regarding traffic safety, signal operation, and congestion; resolve complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
6. Oversee and participate in conducting inspections for the installation of traffic control devices, traffic signs and pavement markings; review and approve bid documents.
7. Prepare city policies and guidelines for engineering activities including the installation of traffic control devices, pavement markings, street lighting, and traffic studies.
8. Select, train, motivate, and evaluate engineering personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; prepare performance evaluations, professional development plans, and performance improvement plans.
9. Prepare and present comprehensive technical reports and economic analysis, including the comprehensive Fee Schedule analysis and comparison studies, estimates for operational and capital budgets, manpower projections and traffic safety and engineering analyses.  Compile annual Public Works Engineering Department fee schedule and listings of fees to build, plan and schedule long-range engineering, planning programs and environmental impact reports.
10. Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the Engineering Division budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement approved adjustments.
11. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures related to the Engineering Division; assess and monitor workload; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the Public Works Director; direct the implementation of improvements.
12. Manage CIP planning activities; provide oversight and input into the conceptual design of engineering projects; investigate and resolve problems with scope of work or cost issues of major projects.
13. Assist with engineering related matters associated with the South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA).
14. Analyze civil engineering plan design, specifications, and consultant and staff comments in accordance with design requirements and municipal and intergovernmental standards and regulations; recommend approval or additional engineering conditions or changes.
15. Serve as the liaison for engineering, including traffic engineering, activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
16. Meet and confer with contractors, engineers, developers, architects, a variety of outside agencies, and the general public in acquiring information and coordinating engineering matters; provide information regarding city development requirements.
17. Serve as staff to support a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
18. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of municipal engineering.
19. Maintain good public relations, receiving and answering public requests and concerns.
20. Participate as a member of internal development review teams/groups and other inter-City and intra-City-related technical committees.

Typical Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field from an accredited university.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional-level public sector civil engineering work experience.
• Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory level position supervising public works engineering personnel to include making hiring recommendations, training, evaluating, and making disciplinary recommendations.
• Possess and maintain a valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer issued by the State of California.
• Land Surveyor License desired, but not required.

The City of Newark is seeking dedicated professionals to be Public Safety Dispatchers and be members of a team providing excellent service to our community. Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2025 through June 30th 2026.

The County of Yuba is currently establishing an eligibility list for the position of Victim Witness Advocate in the Probation Department. Under general supervision, assist victims and witnesses of crime by providing information, support, referral and advocacy services; monitor cases through the judicial system; conduct educational presentations regarding victim services; assist in completing victim compensation claims; and perform related work as assigned. This is the journey level in the victim witness advocate class series and is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment. Distinguishing Characteristics

Parks Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: This is the full journey level class within the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

Representative Duties

The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program. Attendance and successful completion of a Police Academy is a legal requirement to be hired as a Police Officer within the State of California and is a requirement for a City of Sebastopol Police Officer Trainee to be considered for promotion to probationary Police Officer with the City of Sebastopol.

The selected self-sponsored academy candidates will receive a conditional offer upon a qualified application and full hourly pay while attending the police academy. 

The City will hire at the Police Officer Trainee or Police Officer rank, depending on the qualifications held by the pool of qualified applicants. Please see our concurrent Police Officer recruitment for more information.

Mechanic II - $86,091.20 - $105,664 
Work Schedule: M – F 7:00 – 3:30 (With occasional overtime)

About the Department

The Central Garage is part of the Public Works Maintenance & Operations Division. Our three-bay facility maintains more than 260 units—including patrol vehicles, Class 5 and above apparatus, newly integrated electric vehicles, heavy equipment, generators, and small engines to ensure City operations can deliver essential services 24/7.

About the Role 

As a Mechanic I/II, you will:

• Planned and carried out preventive maintenance schedules for all city vehicles and equipment.

• Diagnose and repair gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel engines; hydraulic, electrical, fuel, ignition, exhaust, and brake systems.

• Operate computerized diagnostic instruments plus a full range of hand, air, and electric tools.

• Maintain concise and clear repair records in our repair management software.

• Perform welding, metal fabrication, tire work, and minor body repairs.

• Provide emergency field assistance and respond to critical fleet issues on a 24-hour standby.

• (Mechanic II only) Lead and review the work of assigned staff and manage garage inventory, purchasing, and repair/maintenance planning

Minimum Qualifications & Certifications

• Education - Associate degree (or equivalent coursework) in automotive technology, mechanics, maintenance management, or related field

• Experience

• • Mechanic I - 2 years progressively responsible automotive diagnosis & repair

• • Mechanic II - 4 years progressively responsible automotive diagnosis & repair

• License - Valid CA Class B driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

• Certifications

• • Mechanic I - ASE certifications are preferred; Master Mechanic is highly desirable

• • Mechanic II - similar to Mechanic I, plus demonstrated journey-level competency.
