THE DEPARTMENT

THE POSITION

This Administrative Assistant II is an executive secretarial classification, normally coordinating the office administrative work of a department in addition to personally performing multiple secretarial duties to ensure the efficient service provision of the assigned department. Responsibilities require the frequent use of tact, discretion, and independent judgement as well as a knowledge of departmental and City activities. This class is distinguished from other office administrative classes in that the nature, scope, and diversity of responsibilities originating at a departmental level require a broader understanding of City functions and the capability of relieving a department head and/or related management, supervisory, and professional staff of day-to-day office administrative and coordinative duties.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff.  Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service-related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

 

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off), depending on the field office operational needs. Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

 

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

The Position

In June 2025, the County’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to reestablish a countywide human trafficking prevention pilot program in the District Attorney’s Office. The pilot program is an investment in technology and expertise to provide education and outreach, protect victims, prevent exploitation, identify traffickers, and bring perpetrators to justice.

 

Working under the direction of and closely with the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations, the Human Trafficking Prevention Analyst (Prevention Analyst) will help conduct research and track and collect data regarding human trafficking crime activity, as well as targeted prevention efforts, to guide the county’s efforts to combat human trafficking and support the victim/survivors. 

 

The Prevention Analyst will work closely with partner agencies – including community-based organizations, law enforcement agencies, agencies providing victim services, local cities, and school districts to track the scope of human trafficking in San Mateo County.  In addition, the Prevention Analyst may attend daytime and evening meetings with community-based and other organizations, representing the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations.  

 

Using the research findings and the collected data, the Prevention Analyst will draft high-level reports to inform policymakers, including the Board of Supervisors, of the progress of the human trafficking prevention initiative.  

 

Expertise in research and data extraction, management, and reporting are essential to success in this position. Additionally, strong verbal and written communication skills are required to prepare analyses, reports, and presentations.  Versatility and flexibility will also be important in this position.

 

Examples Of Duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conduct independent research.
• Collect, aggregate, and analyze data.
• Create representational (dashboards, graphs, charts, etc.) and written reports based on research and collected data.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, community-based organizations, local jurisdictions, school districts, and county departments.
• Represent the office at community-based meetings, which might be held during the day or during the evening.
• Demonstrate political astuteness and comportment as a representative of the District Attorney’s Office and the County of San Mateo.
• Work on special projects as assigned by the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations.

 

Depending on the selected candidate, this position could be filled at the Management Analyst level or the Associate Management Analyst level.

• Associate Management Analyst is the first level classification in the Management Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic professional administrative education and/or experience perform analytical and technical work. The impact of decisions is moderate, and the work is typically one of interpreting, explaining, or gathering information. The annual salary range for an Associate Management Analyst is: $104,811 – $130,998.
   
• Management Analyst is the fully experienced level classification in the Management Analyst series. Incumbents support the work of departmental management staff by conducting day-to-day administrative support activities and acting as a professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies. The work has technical and programmatic aspects requiring the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and regulations. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The annual salary range for a Management Analyst is: $121,264 – $151,611.
     

Limited Term Position

Funding for this pilot program has been approved through December 2026, so this position is being filled as a Limited-Term position.  Limited-term positions are full-time, fully benefited, temporary positions.   Limited Term employees receive medical and dental benefits, like regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan (401-A).  Depending on need, the position could become a regular position, but there is no guarantee of this.

  
Work-Out-of-Class Opportunity for County Employees

For current and regular County of San Mateo employees, this position could be a work-out-of-class or a development opportunity.   Employees who are interested in this assignment must submit application materials and compete in the selection process.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, data analytics, computer science, social work, psychology, public administration, or business administration, or a related field. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least three years for the Management Analyst level.

Experience with data analytics is required.

Because of the sensitive and difficult information this position will encounter previous experience or education in criminal justice, social work, social services, and/or psychology might be helpful.

THE POSITION

The Assistant County Counsel performs a wide range of complex and high-level legal work with significant independence and discretion. This executive-level position serves as a key member of the County Counsel team and is responsible for overseeing and providing legal services on a broad spectrum of matters. THE POSITION

The Director of Finance is a regular full-time exempt and at-will position. About the Position:  Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking an Information Systems & Technology (IST) Intern in the Information Systems & Technology Department. The IST Intern will be exposed to government information technology and will receive on-going support and training while working collaboratively and establishing and maintaining open communication with all District Staff. They will gain applicable experience to prepare them for an IT Technician job. This intern will also participate in new cybersecurity projects, software integration and provide hands-on helpdesk support in a hybrid work environment.

Duties and responsibilities of the IST intern may include: responding to daily IT help-desk requests; engaging in proactive problem solving and repairing of IT related equipment and systems; assisting in modifying and maintaining existing applications such as but not limited to Windows 10/11 and Office365 applications; supporting, performing research, and executing IT projects as assigned; and providing user support for software applications and technical expertise to all staff regarding the District’s computer network system. The expected start date for this position is in early December 2025.

Basic Requirements:   Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Budget & Financial Analyses Unit (Position Code 797)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. About the Position: The Fleet Services Specialist will oversee the full cycle of our vehicle and equipment fleet, from budgeting and acquisition to maintenance, compliance, and replacement.  This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable fleet operations by managing contracts, developing specifications, coordinating repairs, and leading asset management strategies.  The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in fleet and equipment maintenance, proven experience with budgeting and program administration, skilled at ensuring regulatory compliance, and the ability to evaluate fleet needs and recommend cost effective solutions. For additional information, see the Job Description page on our website.

Education & Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to an associate degree in fleet management, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field and four (4) years of full-time experience in administration of a fleet or equipment maintenance program or facility, including at least one year at a lead or supervisory level.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Work Environment:  This full time position is part of the Facilities & Fleet Department at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding, and may be eligible for a 9/80 schedule.  To meet service needs, three days of working on-site is required per week – set days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the office. The Fleet Services Specialist will often meet with Midpen staff in the district field offices.  Employees may work in the field and occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, or road hazards. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
