Position and Duties

Technician position for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services). The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event.

The key responsibilities of the Communications Technician may include:

• Install, maintain, and repair mobile and portable radios, base and control stations, microwave systems, dispatch consoles, voting receivers and comparators, digital Microwave system and P25 LMR systems.
• Respond to trouble reports, perform preventative maintenance and project assignments.
• Update technical documentation including wiring block assignments, as-built drawings of installed equipment at City radio sites, specialized vehicular installations, and diagrams of the City’s various communications systems.
• Provide recommendations for process improvement changes with the input of technical staff.
• Construct and/or modify communications equipment and perform research on new equipment.

Definition: Under supervision, to provide facility support to recreation programs, activities or services; understands and adheres to facility policies and procedures; and performs related work as required.  This temporary part-time non-benefited position works an average of 5 - 25 hours per week during the program year.  Available shifts are Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons/evenings.

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of a Facility Attendant - Recreation Leader I, II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Open, close, and secure recreation facilities.
• Set up and tear down tables and chairs.
• Follow set-up directions specific to each activity and event.
• Maintains group and individual discipline, and code of conduct.
• Perform light maintenance to maintain equipment, rooms, and the overall appearance of the facility and picnic rental sites
• Provide quality customer service to all instructors, participants, and renters
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Special Requirements:   Vision adequate to perform room set-ups and take down; speak clearly; ability to bend stoop or crouch; physical stamina to complete all set-up related activities; ability to work off-hours, shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

Education & Experience:

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1,000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain one. 

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Position and Duties

Senior Maintenance Workers perform under direction, plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of large crews engaged in semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of parks, landscaping, and public facilities. This position assists community center staff in various areas, such as receiving, handling, and delivering catered meals to specific sites or homebound residents. The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population. COMMUNITY RESILIENCE COORDINATOR

$8,429.47 – $11,577.50 Monthly, Plus Excellent Benefits

The salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. However, initial salary placement will typically be at the lower end of the range and will not exceed 97% of the range maximum. Placement within the range will be based on the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications. Progression through the range may occur over time, subject to continued service, good performance evaluations, and the City’s administrative policies.

This is a grant funded position that is funded through February 4, 2029. 

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

This position is full-time on-site position that actively supports department operations.  

Future MOU salary increases: 2.5% on 7/1/27.
