About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting. 

The Department is currently recruiting to fill one full-time benefited Zoo Keeper position at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo. THE POSITION 

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal Community Resource Clerk possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be comfortable working in a diverse community setting, providing customer service to community members of various ages, ethnicities, and abilities.  Candidates with bilingual skills are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate can work independently as well as with a team, and can make quick, quality, and educated decisions, taking a proactive approach to deal with customer service issues. Skill in using a personal computer and associated applications is required. The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is highly desirable. 
 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assists in implementing the day-to-day operations at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center.
• Helps oversee use of the facility, ensuring appropriate security is maintained, policies and procedures are followed; appropriate equipment and materials are available, and building is operating efficiently.
• Registers participants in programs and assists patrons with Library or Parks and Recreation account inquiries.
• Performs typical service desk duties including but not limited to patron registration and account management, checking in/out materials, utilization of self-check equipment, assisting patrons with fines and fees, payments and placing reserves, and answering patron questions and requests.
• Maintain the posting of current promotional materials, such as flyers, brochures, guides, and other printed materials.
• Assists in coordinating the scheduling of classes, activities, meetings, events, and rentals in the facility.
• Assists patrons in using and locating library materials and equipment; explains library services, rules, and procedures.
• Works cooperatively with staff, parents, children, and other public and private sector employees and volunteers; coordinates with appropriate agencies to ensure that necessary services are provided to clients.
• Provides customer service in person, by telephone, and electronically.
• Performs general housekeeping duties related to the organization of materials and equipment in the common areas of the facility.
• Prepares for programs, including set up and take down; organization of required supplies.
• May be responsible for opening and/or closing the facility according to established procedures.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: Minimum of 18 years of age. One year of paid or unpaid work experience involving customer service.

Training:  Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

•  Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a current First-Aid and CPR certificate within the first 12 months from date of hire.

Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill two (2) Building Inspector-Electrical Specialty, Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior positions within the Engineering Services Division, Code Inspection Section.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision within the Police Department, responds to active crisis calls in collaboration with law enforcement and provides field and office based crisis intervention, behavioral health assessments and counseling, psychoeducation, outreach and engagement, transitional case management, consultation, and quality assurance review of assigned cases; works collaboratively with community service providers, behavioral health agencies, and law enforcement to connect individuals to appropriate resources; and performs related work as required or assigned.

This classification is uniquely distinguished by its principal responsibility to co-respond with law enforcement to emergency calls within the City that involve suspected mental health or behavioral health concerns. This integrated response model ensures a coordinated approach to crisis situations designed to improve outcomes for individuals experiencing psychological distress.

Employees in this position operate with a high degree of independence, judgment and initiative within established departmental policies and procedures. While this position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities, the clinician may provide guidance and training to other personnel, community partners or service providers. Incumbents receive general supervision from a Police Lieutenant and administrative direction from a Police Captain within the Police Department’s Services Division.

A Crisis Response Clinician I is in a pre-licensed status, has completed some of the requirements and must practice under supervision while working towards full licensure. A Crisis Response Clinician II is a licensed clinician who has completed all requirements for professional practice, including education, supervised hours, and exams and can practice independently. A Clinician I shall, upon receipt of the requisite licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or California Board of Psychology, be advanced to a Clinician II.

Working as part of the court executive team, the Court Director of Finance (Director of Finance) will exercise managerial authority over the financial operations, oversee the budget, and look for ways to enhance the revenue of the Superior Court of California in San Mateo County.  In addition, the Director of Finance will develop, recommend, and implement departmental budgetary goals, policies, and objectives and will develop and implement dual (programmatic and cost center) budgetary, monitoring, and fiscal reporting systems to coordinate with the State budgetary and fiscal reporting systems. 

 

The Director of Finance will also coordinate financial activities with those of other local agencies and the State and will provide highly responsible and complex financial management support to the Court Executive Officer and related management staff.  Additionally, the Director of Finance will provide direct and indirect supervision over assigned professional, supervisory, technical, and clerical personnel.

• Provide strategic policy direction for all financial activities and ensure integration with State budgetary and reporting systems.
• Monitor and analyze State and local legislation affecting court operations and develop responsive fiscal strategies.
• Direct and evaluate staff responsible for fiscal and accounting functions, including training, motivation, and performance management.
• Plan the development and implementation of the overall Court budget in coordination with operational divisions, prepare budgetary administrative information, and participate in forecasting additional funding requirements for programs, staffing, facilities, equipment, and materials.
• Oversee revenue collection, cost recovery, auditing, procurement, and contract administration.
• Ensure accuracy and compliance of financial statements, reports, and reimbursement claims.
• Oversee, prepare, and review the preparation of complex financial statements, reports, summaries, and reimbursement claims, and analyze and interpret financial information and statistical data for Court management, judicial officers, advisory committees, auditors, and related individuals and groups.
• Represent the Court administration in meetings with the State, judicial officers, County departments, other Superior Courts, and public and private organizations.
• Provide expert consultation to the Court Executive Officer and executive team on fiscal strategy, forecasting, and risk management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, auditing, economics, business, or public administration or a related discipline. A graduate degree in one of the above disciplines is preferred.
• Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of fiscal resource management in a public agency, at least two years of which were in an administrative or management capacity. Experience in a California Court setting is preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

• Legislation, policies, and procedures related to budgeting and financial reporting for the California Superior Courts, including public agency fund accounting and third-party reimbursement and claims payment practices.
• Fiscal resource administration, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, auditing, and related practices.
• Understanding of California court fiscal structures, fund accounting, and State reporting.
• Strong leadership and management capabilities, including staff development and performance management.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to foster innovation while maintaining compliance and stewardship of public funds.
• Strategic planning, process improvement, and fiscal policy development. Principles and practices of internal and external auditing.
• Techniques for communicating technical financial information to nontechnical operational staff.

The Department  

The Department of Economic and Community Development includes four divisions that support the physical and economic well-being of South San Francisco:

• Planning – Long-range planning, development review, and zoning administration.
• Building – Enforces building codes and conducts construction inspections.
• Housing – Manages affordable housing programs and housing policy.
• Economic Development – Supports small businesses and promotes economic growth.

THE POSITION

• This position will work specifically in the Economic Development Division.
• Approximately 15 hours per week, with flexibility depending on outside commitments.
• Availability to support some upcoming events scheduled during occasional weekday late afternoons or evenings.
• The duration of this position is for six months from the date of hire, with the ability to extend based on performance.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Assists the Division with promotions, and marketing programs that support local businesses.
• Assists the Division with City communications, including email campaigns, social media, and flyer distribution.
• Supports the Division with upcoming events hosted by the City and its economic development partners. Upcoming events include, but are not limited to, the Biotech and Beyond Speaker Series, business workshops both in-person and virtual, community events, and night markets. Support may include event planning, outreach, logistics, and day of planning and support, as needed.
• Assists the Division with implementation of some of Skyline College’s Accelerate Fellowship Program past projects that support downtown revitalization, and business support initiatives.
• Assists the Division with planning event logistics including budgets, timelines, and staffing plans. This also includes onsite coordination of events, including set-up, and clean-up.
• The Economic Development Intern may also support occasional follow up reports needed to show performance metrics from events implemented by the Division.
• General administrative support, as needed.
• This position may occasionally work at either City Hall (400 Grand Avenue) or the Economic Advancement Center (366 Grand Avenue) both in South San Francisco. Events and meetings coordinated by the Division take place all within the City of South San Francisco.
• Performs other related duties as required.

The Planning and Delivery subdivision of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is responsible for providing a safe, reliable and connected multimodal network. SFMTA is currently in the process of developing a new train control system.  The Train Control Upgrade Project (TCUP) is a critical, once-in-a-generation investment to modernize and grow Muni Metro for decades to come. TCUP aims to replace the outdated system that currently controls our Metro trains in our subways with a new, state-of-the-art Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, and extend the new system to all on-street Metro corridors.

The Project Manager I (PM1) is responsible for the surface level integration of the new CBTC system with SFMTA’s existing traffic signal infrastructure.  The work will include systems engineering to integrate various pieces of infrastructure to ensure compatible functionality (e.g. CBTC can communicate with traffic signal controller software and output the desired signal outcomes). The PM1 should possess expertise in traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including but not limited to: signal timing parameters, traffic signal design, Transit Signal Priority (TSP), network communication protocols and devices, as well as familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the systems engineering architecture and standards established by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).  The candidate must also have prior experience overseeing the integration of ITS devices, such as TSP and emergency vehicle preemption, with the D4 traffic signal controller software.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

• Oversee internal staff and consultants to develop protocols and procedures to integrate CBTC technology with existing traffic signal infrastructure
• Develop calculations for traffic signal timing card changes to reduce transit travel times and improve transit reliability
• Provide direction to staff in the preparation of studies, calculations, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans for a variety of engineering projects using AutoCAD, Synchro, VISSIM and other software tools
• Provide written and oral responses to a variety of inquiries from other agencies, contractors, and the general public

How to qualify

1. Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus four years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR
2. A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
3. Eight years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
4. California registration as professional engineer or architect.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

• Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in both Civil and Traffic disciplines
• Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• Detailed knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and the National Transportation Communications for Intelligent Transportation System Protocol (NTCIP), including previous experience with managing project deployment and integrations of related devices
• Extensive experience programming traffic signal timing plans with the D4 traffic signal controller software
• Knowledge of transit operations and investigative practices to develop roadway engineering safety improvements
• Hands-on experience with traffic signal and communications network design and construction - covering all phases from preliminary engineering design to the finalization of plans, specifications, and estimates plus construction support
• Demonstrated capability in lifecycle planning and deployment of emerging technologies, including successful implementation through pilot initiatives
• A genuine interest in transit and enthusiasm for improving a highly-utilized metropolitan rail system

The Department 

The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings.  The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.

THE POSITION

Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team, using sound judgment while following established safety procedures.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the City’s downtown corridor, ensuring all public areas are free of litter and debris.
• Efficiently empty, clean and service all City owned trash receptacles, adhering to waste disposal and sanitation standards.

• Uses a variety of hand and power tools in connection with the above duties; operates light, motorized equipment, such as pick-ups, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
