Salary Information

Equipment Mechanic Assistant I: $60,632.00 - $73,694.40

Equipment Mechanic Assistant II: $66,560.00 - $80,828.80

Position Duties 

This position is open until filled with the first review date of January 14, 2026.

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including the comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. 

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for a Maintenance Worker I-II

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. A key player on this team is the Maintenance Worker. You would be joining over 500 people whose mission is to serve the San Mateo community with a collaborative, innovative and professional spirit.

What You'll Do

The Maintenance Worker position may be filled at either the I or II level based on experience. The Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, sewers, storm drains, pump stations, traffic signal and street light equipment, traffic systems, or municipal buildings; and to do related work as required. Some of the duties of this position are as follows:

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, motorgraders, boom trucks, tractors, vac-all and small sweepers, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels.
• Use concrete cutting and braking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet cleaner, vac-all, front loader, backhoe, compressor, sandblaster, power wench, boom truck, cc TV unit, main and auxiliary pumps, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, diesel power plants, and related equipment and tools.
• Assist pump mechanics to install, repair and modify pump station machinery and control.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck.
• Assist in performing a variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Assist in trash and debris control activities such as picking up of litter and other street maintenance activities as required or when weather does not permit sweeping operations.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers.

THE POSITION

• Perform technical level administrative duties in support of the City’s Below Market-Rate (BMR) Housing Program
• Research, collect, and analyze data and prepare draft reports related to the City’s BMR Program
• Create and manage workflows and administrative procedures for annual compliance monitoring of the City’s BMR portfolio

What You’ll Do

• Support the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive risk-based emergency management and community preparedness program.
• Prepare and maintain municipal emergency operations plans, annexes, appendixes, checklists, and other supporting documentation.
• Respond to the Emergency Operations Center when it is activated.
• Design and administer communication plans to enable effective municipal and community response to a disaster situation.
• Continually monitor and assess municipalities’ training programs and research methods to increase community outreach.

Role description

The SFMTA Transit Division’s Maintenance of Way (MOW) Section is seeking a Senior Operations Manager, Mechanical Infrastructure (Mechanical Infrastructure SOM). This role will oversee and manage the work of four mechanical and infrastructure-related units within MOW, including: Cable Car Propulsion, Cable Car Track Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, and Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Track Maintenance. The role encompasses the leadership of over 100 maintenance personnel across various classifications, with an emphasis on ensuring high-quality infrastructure in support of SFMTA Muni operations. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated and professional, with extensive experience managing complex maintenance programs within a transit or similarly scaled operational environment.

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Maintenance Officer (DCMO), the Mechanical Infrastructure SOM plans, manages, supervises, and leads the execution of essential maintenance and repair activities involving mechanical systems and infrastructure that support the City’s transit operations.

This position is responsible for implementing and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory requirements, and guiding staff in resolving technical and emergency maintenance challenges. The Mechanical Infrastructure SOM works closely with engineering and project delivery teams on capital projects related to mechanical infrastructure including design review and operational readiness support. The position may also serve as a delegate for the DCMO when required.

The MOW section of the SFMTA Transit Division directly oversees the fixed guideway infrastructure, ensuring smooth and safe operations of our rail and trolley-bus lines. MOW is comprised of three maintenance and operation units: Mechanical Infrastructure, Electrical Infrastructure, Facilities Maintenance as well as Engineering, Compliance and Administration units. Together these teams directly support four of the five SFMTA transit modes including trolley bus, light rail, historic streetcar and cable car. The MOW section works collaboratively with other SFMTA divisions and other city departments to provide services to our customers by operating and maintaining over 100 track miles of railway, 500 miles of electrical overhead and critical supporting systems.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties for the 9180-Manager VI:

• Oversees all day-to-day Maintenance of Way mechanical infrastructure functions.
• Provides direction to subordinate managers on operations, maintenance priorities, and performance improvement efforts within mechanical infrastructure teams.
• Plans, assigns, and oversees the work of staff engaged in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, cable car propulsion, cable car track and LRV track infrastructure.

• Maintains and refines Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),
• Monitor staff assignments, service levels, and organizational efficiency and recommend adjustments to the DCMO as needed.

• Coordinates with Administration on budget development, tracking expenditures and evaluating cost estimates for repair options.
• Prepares and approves requisitions for materials and supplies.

• Works collaboratively with engineering personnel, contractors, and vendors on mechanical and facility projects, including capital improvements and emergency repairs.

The 9180 – Manager VI may perform other duties as assigned/required. 

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; AND
2. Eight (8) years of full-time experience at a mass transit agency in the operation, maintenance and repair in any of the following: buildings, stations or passenger infrastructure; and/or use of heavy construction equipment; and/or track work; and/or maintenance engineering, which must have included three (3) years at the second supervisory level or management level which includes responsibility for supervising staff; AND
3. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Substitution:
Additional years of qualifying experience (both second-level supervisory or non-supervisory) may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One year (2,000 hours) will be considered equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

Notes:

1. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

2. One (1) year full-time experience is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time experience.

About the Position

The San Carlos Recreation Department is looking for seasonal summer Recreation Leaders who are responsible, energetic, and enjoy working outdoors with children in a fun and positive atmosphere.

 

Recreation Leader positions are fun!  The City works with applicant’s interests and strengths to place them in the appropriate Recreation Leader opening.

 

The Recreation Leader I classification is the entry-level position in the Recreation Leader Series. The Recreation Leader II classification is the second-level position in the Recreation Leader Series. Positions in this part-time classification perform routine, basic work under direct supervision, in the planning and conducting of a wide variety of recreation activities. Receives supervision from a Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Recreation Leader II or Program Coordinator as assigned.

 

Work schedule: Seasonal Recreation Leaders are assigned to the Summer Day Camp and Youth Center programs working with children ages 4 -12 years. This summer’s camp program runs from June 15 - August 14, 2026. Training for Recreation Leader I & II will take place the week of June 8, 2026 (mandatory in-service training). Recreation Leaders must be able to work during this time period for at least 8 of the 10 weeks and have the ability to plan and conduct exciting youth recreation activities.

 

Positions in this seasonal classification perform routine, basic work under direct supervision, in the planning and conducting of a wide variety of recreation activities. Positions require a commitment of 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Shifts may vary based on camp needs.

 

Essential Duties

 

As a Recreation Leader for San Carlos Parks and Recreation you will:

• Ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for youth participants.
• Supervision and facilitation of Youth Center special events and participants.

We are offering two types of Summer Camps, Adventure Camp for children ages 4 to 12, and Sports Camps (Flag Football, Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, and Multi-Sport) for ages 5-12.

The County Executive’s Office seeks qualified candidates for the position of Outreach and Enforcement Associate in the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement.

 

Launched in July 2025, the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement (OLSE) promotes fair labor practices throughout San Mateo County. OLSE’s core functions include conducting outreach and education to workers and employers within San Mateo County about their rights and obligations in the workplace and enforcing labor standards that protect San Mateo County workers through coordinated investigations and efforts to secure compliance.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Labor Standards Manager, the Outreach and Enforcement Associate will lead OLSE’s community outreach and engagement work, support civil investigations and enforcement actions, and manage projects to support OLSE’s implementation. Spanish fluency is required for this position. 

 

The Outreach and Enforcement Associate’s key responsibilities will include:

• Outreach and Community Engagement:
  • Plan and implement culturally and linguistically appropriate labor standards outreach campaigns targeting low-wage workers and their employers, prioritizing outreach consistent with geographic and industry priorities, with buy-in from key stakeholders. 
  • Execute a wide range of outreach activities, including mass mailings, door-to-door canvassing, flyering, tabling, presentations, workshops, and events.
  • Deliver presentations to and facilitate discussions with low-wage workers and small businesses, providing clarity on workplace rights and resources available to support labor compliance.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials that present information responsive to community need in an accurate, accessible, and engaging manner.
  • Build partnerships and cooperative working relationships with County departments and various community, public, and regulatory organizations.

 

• Enforcement Support and Intake Coordination:
  • Receive and respond to complaints, inquiries, and requests for support from workers, employers, and members of the public, implementing OLSE’s intake procedures and best practices for ensuring all stakeholders who contact OLSE receive clear, helpful, in-language, and timely information and complaints are investigated promptly.
  • Conduct initial interviews with workers seeking OLSE assistance by phone and in-person; identify worker priorities and make recommendations for appropriate next steps.
  • As assigned, and under supervision, conduct investigations of potential violations of laws within OLSE’s jurisdiction, including interviewing workers, engaging with employers, calculating damages, and drafting investigation reports.

 

• Project Management:
  • Support the development and implementation of OLSE workflows and processes, including the implementation of a case management database.
  • Coordinate contract solicitations and assist with the maintenance and monitoring of OLSE contracts.
  • Prepare reports on OLSE activities and outcomes.

 

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

• Assist in developing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards. 
• Analyze programmatic practices and procedures and make recommendations for organizational, operational, policy, and procedural improvements.
• Conduct needs analyses, feasibility studies, and evaluations.
• Support Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement programs and projects.
• Continuously monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and service delivery methods and procedures to maximize funding and minimize costs. 
• Develop, summarize, and maintain administrative and fiscal records.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations.
• Conduct special research projects and financial analyses for countywide programs and usage, produce findings and recommendations, and prepare related reports.
• Represent the Office in interdepartmental, community, and professional meetings and confer and coordinate with other County staff on a wide variety of administrative analyses and planning issues.
• Ensure compliance with Federal, State, County, and funding agency regulatory and reporting requirements and applicable laws, regulations, and professional practices.
• Prepare and submit Board of Supervisor agenda reports and various other commission, committee, and staff reports, resolutions, ordinances, and correspondence regarding assigned activities.
• Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and review publications and related materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in labor standards, labor laws, and enforcement.
• Communicate orally, in writing, or through graphic representations and statistical summaries with colleagues, managers, employees, the public, organized employee groups, and representatives of various organizations.
• Participate, as requested, in selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned staff and interns; direct the work activities of assigned staff; prioritize and coordinate work assignments; provide or coordinate staff training; review work for accuracy; and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in personnel, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional human resources experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity, are required. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $132,749 to $162,905. Remote work is not available for this position. The City is proud to offer a competitive total compensation package with the following highlights:

  • Approximately 7 to 10 weeks of paid time off per year, dependent on years of service, with the option to cash-out up to 2 weeks per year
