GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II provides essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, part-time, at-will position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned.  
 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Illustrative purposes only)

• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment. 

• Assist in organizing and supervising recreational programs in any one or more of the following areas: children, adults, senior citizens, and participants with special needs at playgrounds, community centers, and other recreational areas. 

• Open, close, and secure facilities, including locking gates and setting alarms. 

• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment according to event/program requirements. 

• Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure facility safety and upkeep. 

• Enforce policies, maintain discipline, and provide customer service to patrons. 

• Monitor and report facility issues and potential hazards. 

• Assist with special events and activities as needed. 

• Respond to and resolve patron inquiries and complaints. 

• Participate in safety training and emergency procedures.

The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Aquatics Team!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.

The Office of the City Clerk is a service department within the municipal government upon which the five-member City Council, all City departments, and the general public relies on information regarding the operations and legislative history of the City. The City Clerk serves as the liaison between the public and the City Council and provides related municipal services such as serving as the Elections Official, providing key staff for Council meetings and recording all Council action, and serving as records manager for the protection and preservation of the public record.

The Assistant to the City Clerk position serves as the welcoming and friendly face of government for both the City Council and the City Clerk’s office as this position is the first contact for the front counter and the primary receptionist. The position requires an ability to help demystify government services and processes, learn and maintain an understanding of all government services and procedures and help citizens get to the right service. The position’s administrative functions include responsibility for records management including filing and scanning; managing and ordering office supply inventory; writing correspondence, creating certificates of commendation and writing proclamations on behalf of the Mayor. This position also provides support for Public Records Act (PRA) request intake, coordination, and review to ensure timely and compliant responses. • Provide information and answer inquiries from officials, the public, and City staff on laws, procedures, and policies, such as the City Municipal Code, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act; organize and assist with the filing of Statements of Economic Interests and Campaign Statements for candidates, office holders and City employees; record and file deeds and other documents requiring recordation; maintain and monitor agreements and insurance certificates; perform special projects as needed.

• Order office supplies, manage supply inventory; submit expense claims, pay bills as needed.

The Assistant to the City Clerk receives general supervision from the Deputy City Clerk or a higher-level position and may exercise direct or functional and technical supervision over lower-level clerical positions, volunteers, and interns.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders 

This recruitment is for spring, summer and fall events and activities beginning March 9th, such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues, Fourth of July, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, Halloween and other fun classes, activities, and events. Ideal candidates will be available to referee Monday through Thursday each week and/or to staff events on Friday evenings from June through August and occasional Saturdays. 

Pay: $16.90 - $17.90/ Hr.

The City of Sausalito is recruiting part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm

Qualifications

Work Schedule: Work in an onsite environment, and you may be expected to work onsite in the office up to 5 days per week. In-office workdays are determined by the nature of the work and are scheduled by your supervisor.

The Summer Learning Challenge is a summer library program that encourages kids, teens and adults to read or listen to books in the summer. The Challenge is a fun, interactive program for the whole family that includes free book giveaways, activities, raffles, and prizes for kids ages 0-18. The program starts on June 1 and runs through the end of August.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school interns to support Library staff with activities both at the libraries and at summer outreach sites throughout the City of Redwood City to promote and support the Summer Learning Challenge. The interns will be responsible for planning and delivering library programs, providing them with opportunities where their voices are elevated and valued.

Example of Duties: Under the supervision of a Librarian perform various duties as assigned for the operation of the Summer Learning Challenge. Duties may include, assist with planning and delivering programs for kids and teen, serve lunch an lead activities during the lunch at the Library service, register children and families up in the Summer Learning Challenge and record statistical data, staff outreach events at local school and community sites.

Camp Newark is seeking a confident, creative, and organized leader to serve as an Activity Coordinator for our dynamic summer camp program. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in high-energy environments and are passionate about creating meaningful experiences for youth ages 6–11. 

The Activity Coordinator plays a key leadership role in planning and delivering engaging daily programming while supporting and supervising camp staff. This position requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, along with the ability to create a fun, structured, and safe camp environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Create, schedule, and implement creative camp activities for youth ages 6–11, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and STEM-based enrichment. 

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate camp counselors, including training and delegating responsibilities. 

• Coordinate daily camp schedules, special events, and field trips. 

• Maintain clear and professional communication with parents regarding camper experiences and program information.
