The Position

 
The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining
a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.  

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency
  and non-emergency
  telephone and radio traffic.  

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.

• Responsible for various Record Management System (RMS) entries, some of these include but are not limited to citations, warrants, subpoenas. 

• Responsible for accurate and timely entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), as well as, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks:
  records entry, assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions. 

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

 

Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation. 
 
Education

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Additional related college course work or degree preferred.

Experience

• At least one (1) year of related work experience requiring alertness and independent judgment, but no previous public safety dispatch experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record.

• Typing certificate issued within the last year verifying minimum typing speed of thirty-five (35) net words per minute with a maximum of nine (9) errors. Typing certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.  Online typing certificate permitted with application; formal test will be administered to final candidate.

• Completion within the last year of the POST Entry Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery with a preferred minimum
  score of 48 or above;
  or CritiCall Dispatch passing test results within a year of application date.

Minimum qualifications include: 

Licensure/Certification:

• Psychiatric Social Worker I: Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker.  If an individual is not registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker at the time of hire, they must have submitted the application, and must obtain and provide the registration number within 90 days of hire.  An individual hired in this classification must become licensed within six years from the date of employment as a Clinical Social Worker issued by the State of California within three years of appointment.

The Position

The IT Intern will be exposed to government information technology and will receive on-going support and training while working collaboratively with City staff. They will gain applicable experience and the communication skills to prepare them for an IT Technician job. This intern will also participate in a new website project, cybersecurity initiatives, application administration, and provide hands-on help desk support.

Typical Duties (may include, but are not limited to the following):

POSITION 
To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Community Services Department and to create a list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Plan Checker.  This position is to assist in the review of building plans and specifications for compliance with city, state and model code requirements; provide advice and interpretations to clients; and process building permit applications. It is under general supervision of Chief Building Official.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

Additionally, major thoroughfares coursing through our fully developed community make traffic management a vital duty of all patrol officers. Overall, the department has strong opportunities for specialty assignments, including: K9, investigations, narcotics enforcement, and SWAT / HNT. Patrol teams enjoy a rotating 4/12 plan or a fixed 4/10 schedule in specialty assignments.

The City realizes the diversity of the community and therefore upon approval, the City pays officers a bilingual stipend. Our officers continually strive to be the best and achieve high standards; they receive a 5% incentive for achieving their Intermediate POST certificate and 10% incentive for achieving their advanced certificate. The City has new desktop and laptop computers in place for employees. The City already has Crime Analysis and Traffic Analysis software systems in place. A new handheld citations system for traffic has recently been launched. The City also implemented a citywide GIS system, document imaging system, and Intranet, which are available to all staff members. Additionally, we have placed laptops in all patrol cars in order to facilitate timely report writing and response to calls for service.

You’ll tackle complex projects, work independently, and ensure that development across our community aligns with established standards and contribute to projects that directly influence community vitality and quality of life.

The Senior Development Review Technician is the advanced journey level in the Development Review Technician series. Incumbents provide work coordination and training for other Development Review Technicians or consultants (as applicable), as well as perform the full range of technical building and planning support duties. They are required to possess thorough knowledge of the requirements, processes and procedures of the Planning and Building Department, and some working knowledge of Public Works is desirable. This position is distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, and independence of action taken. Incumbents are expected to provide more comprehensive support to the Planning and Building Department and may be assigned work coordination and lead responsibilities.
