Protective Services Workers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families. They engage in case planning, risk assessments, and deliver vital support services.

Essential Duties but Not Limited:

• Family Partnership: Collaborate with families, communities, and service providers to form a supportive team addressing the safety, health, and well-being needs of children, youth, and families.
• Assessments: Conduct comprehensive assessments of safety, risk, and protective capacity using designated tools, taking appropriate actions to ensure child safety.
• Case Management: Maintain case information using computerized case management systems and develop behavioral case plans in collaboration with families and stakeholders.
• Support Services: Connect families with a range of services and empower them to implement case plans effectively.
• Education: Counsel and educate youth, families, caregivers, and partners on Child Welfare processes, legal requirements, and departmental policies.
• Community Engagement: Build community partnerships and educate organizations about Family and Children’s Services.
• Professional Development: Stay updated on policies, initiatives, and best practices through training and participation in work groups.

• Placement Support: Monitor children placed in homes, ensuring their needs are met and facilitating mandatory parental visits and appointments.

Special Requirements:

• Ability to drive outside of San Francisco, climb stairs for home visits, lift objects up to 40 pounds.

Position Duties 

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City's fleet including the comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition and disposal. The City's vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. 

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill two (2) Apprentice Mechanic positions. The Apprentice Mechanic position will be trained on the repair and maintenance of the City of San Jose's diverse vehicle and equipment fleet. The incumbent will be rotated through various facilities to acquire the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of this position. Parallel with the on-the-job training, the apprentice will be also required to take and successfully complete courses during on and off shift and on the apprentice's own time with a designated college and other learning programs as directed by the Apprentice Committee. Apprentice Mechanic will also be given a list of tools to purchase.

Under immediate supervision, this position requires basic mechanic skills in the preventive maintenance and light mechanical repairs. Upon completion of the four-year apprenticeship, the incumbent will become a competent, recognized State certified Journey level Mechanic in the servicing and repair technology related to a wide variety of motorized vehicles and equipment including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and alternate fueled engines. 

This position, depending on facility assignment, may require working various shift hours and overtime.

The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Woodland Police Department is staffed with 71 sworn officers, 18 professional employees, and 8 part-time temporary professional employees. THE POSITION Under general supervision, this non-sworn, non-peace officer position performs assignments involving responsible public contact work in crime prevention and delivers non-emergency police services; to include Public Safety (emergency/non-emergency) Radio Comm for Police & Fire responders; also performs related duties as required.

Prerequisites / Qualifications 

This is the entry-level position.   Applicants must be 18 years old at time of application, have no felony convictions, have the ability to learn and understand radio and statue codes, understand policy and procedures written in English, function without close supervision, work a variety of shifts including weekends and holidays, and lift and transport various objects.  

Education / Experience

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school plus one (1) year of experience in a clerical of similar position; college credits in criminal justice or communication preferred. 

Licenses / Registrations / Accreditation / Etc. 

Possession of a Valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator License; A 35 WPM Typing Certification (Needs to be attached to application); and achieve within one year of appointment the completion of a P.O.S.T. Dispatch Certificate, completion of D.O.J. training for full access operator, and standard CPR and First Aid Certificates issued by the American Red Cross.
