This program is designed to provide students with substantive project experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to the inner workings of municipal government. Unlike a general internship pool, each department will recruit for a specific opportunity aligned with its operational needs and professional focus. 

About the Program

The Summer Internship Program was developed in collaboration with the Next Generation Committee, sponsored by the City/County Managers Associations of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The program supports the development of emerging professionals and promotes careers in local government.

The Summer Internship Program is tentatively scheduled to run from June 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026 (8 weeks). End date may be adjusted based on the intern's schedule and availability.

Selected applicants will be invited to interview during a tentative window of March 23 – April 3, 2026, with flexibility as needed.

The City anticipates finalizing offers by April 24, 2026 to allow adequate time for summer scheduling and coordination. Internships are part-time (up to 25 hours per week), seasonal, at-will, and non-benefited positions.

About the Economic & Housing Development Summer Intern Opportunity

The Economic & Housing Development Division advances initiatives that support fiscal sustainability, business vitality, housing production, and long-term community resilience. The Economic Development Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting business attraction and retention, marketing and tourism initiatives, special events, and strategic planning efforts aligned with the City’s adopted Economic Development Work Plan. This internship is ideal for a student interested in economic development, public policy, urban planning, communications, or community development. The intern will contribute to projects that directly support local businesses and enhance Pacifica’s commercial districts.

Responsibilities May Include (but Are Not Limited To):

• Assisting with creation of marketing and promotional materials to support local businesses and tourism efforts
• Supporting event planning and coordination for business-focused and community events
• Researching and identifying grant opportunities related to economic development, mobility, and placemaking initiatives
• Assisting with preparation of grant applications and supporting documentation
• Developing one-page informational materials for public distribution (ie: permitting guides, business resources, development summaries)
• Supporting social media and digital communications related to economic development initiatives

• Conducting research related to bike, pedestrian, and scooter mobility initiatives that support commercial districts
• Supporting data collection and analysis related to commercial vacancy, business trends, and district activation efforts

Education & Experience:

• Current undergraduate student majoring in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business, Communications, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field
• Coursework in economic development, public policy, urban studies, marketing, transportation planning, or community development preferred
• Interest in municipal government and local economic sustainability
• Prior internship or project experience in communications, research, event coordination, or community engagement is desirable but not required

• Strong written and visual communication skills
• Ability to translate complex policy or technical information into clear, public-facing materials

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for two individuals to fill the positions of Psychiatric Technician I/II whom will provide medication support services both in the field and at the office. This particular position is located within the Adult Outpatient Clinic and will report to the Medication Support Team Manager & the Medication Support Services Supervisor. The Psychiatric Technician I/II will appeal to individuals who are inspired by challenges and opportunities presented in working with an engaged and active community by providing all manner of adjunctive medication support services.

Psychiatric Technician I: This is the entry-level classification in the Psychiatric Technician series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine medication monitoring, administration, and support, while learning Authority policies and procedures. 

Psychiatric Technician II: This is the journey-level classification in the Psychiatric Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Psychiatric Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Under the direction of clinical staff, provides medication management services to a caseload of clients in the office and in the field; ensures the proper acquisition and administration of medication.
   
• Provides education and training to clients, their families, and/or staff on the proper care and use of medications, including symptoms of, reactions to, or side effects of, specific medications; informs clients of the impact of abuse and/or misuse of medications.
   
• Conducts home/field visits to evaluate client’s physical environment and behavior such as anxiety, withdrawals, and behavioral health progression/regression.
   
• Takes and records measures of clients’ vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors; assists and observes clients self-dispense medication as prescribed by a psychiatrist and administers scheduled injections.
   
• Conducts medication checks on clients to assess their overall medication management capabilities; takes appropriate action if client poses danger with respect to the use or abuse of medication; observes, evaluates, records, and reports to professional staff changes in client’s condition.
   
• Motivates clients to develop self-reliance in daily living; encourages clients to participate in group and/or individual therapy/program activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

The Position

The Planning Intern will support the Community Development Department - Planning Division with research-based projects and assist staff with minor permit review. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in municipal planning, exposure to development review processes, and an understanding of how planning policies are implemented at the local level. The intern will work closely with planning staff and gain practical insight into zoning, land use regulations, and public-sector planning operations.

Duties: The primary projects will most likely include the following:

•    Conduct research related to land use planning, zoning regulations, and special planning initiatives
•    Assist planning staff with minor permit review
•    Help organize and analyze planning data, maps, and project materials
•    Prepare summaries and other written materials to support planning projects
•    Assist with updating planning documents, handouts, and internal resources
•    Participate in staff meetings and observe planning processes, as appropriate
•    Provide general administrative support to planning staff as needed

Minimum Qualifications

•    BA/BS Candidate in City Planning, Architecture, Public Policy or a similar discipline
•    Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
•    Interest in municipal planning and public-sector work
•    Familiarity with land use planning concepts or zoning regulations
•    Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
 

Time Commitment

Flexible Schedule, up to 40 hours a week. Each intern is able to work a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

About the HR Summer Intern Opportunity

The Human Resources Division plays a central role in supporting the City’s workforce and organizational culture. The HR Intern will gain hands on exposure to public sector human resources operations, including recruitment, employee engagement, policy research, and organizational initiatives. Education & Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Work Environment: This full-time position reports to the Facilities & Fleet Manager and is part of the Facilities & Fleet Department at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding and may be eligible for a 9/80 schedule.  To meet service needs, three days of working on-site is required per week – set days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the office. The Fleet Services Program Manager will often meet with Midpen staff in the district field offices.  Employees may work in the field and occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, or road hazards. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year)

GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.
• Assist with recreation pop ups and special events
• Other duties as assigned

Specific to Youth Services:

• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
