The Public Works Director will play a critical leadership role during a period of elevated development activity and organizational transition. This position requires a hands-on leader who can maintain momentum on existing initiatives while advancing new priorities across Public Works, Engineering, and land development functions.

This is an exempt, "at-will" senior management position directly responsible to the City Manager.  Salary is negotiated within salary range depending on qualifications.

DESCRIPTION 

We are seeking a collaborative, service-oriented individual to conduct a variety of code compliance duties with competence and professionalism. The Code Compliance Officer I/II will be responsible for conducting inspections and investigations pertaining to violations of the municipal code provisions in zoning ordinances, sanitary regulations, business license regulations, building standards and nuisance abatement ordinances.  The Code Compliance Officer I/II must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be self-directed, exercise discretion, and excellent judgment. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conduct technical field inspections and investigations to determine compliance of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings with zoning ordinances, conditions of zoning variance, special use, and other conditioned permits
• Receive and investigate public concerns; conduct on-site inspections and determine existence and type of code violations
• Prepare cases for court proceedings and legal review, mediation, warrants, etc. in coordination with the City Attorney's Office
• Testify or represent the City as a subject matter expert in court actions, depositions, and proceedings as necessary
• Issue corrective notices, administrative citations, and orders to comply with code violations; interpret and explain municipal codes and ordinances to members of the public, contractors, business owners, and other interested groups

Description

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year. This is a part-time position. Hours will range from 20-37 hours per week.

This position is under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Summer Day Camp at Sterling Park.

Energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children are encouraged to apply. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions. The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure and provides quality, cost-effective, timely services to the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. DPW is responsible for a wide variety of programs throughout the City which include implementation of solid waste and urban run-off pollution prevention programs, design, construction management, inspection and maintenance of City streets, bridges, storm drain systems, traffic signal systems, building facilities, fleet, street trees, landscaping and the closed landfill. The Mechanical Maintenance Position is in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Position: 

The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is a journey level technical classification. This classification operates, lubricates, cleans, adjusts, and makes repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigeration, emergency generators, solar systems, and other stationary building equipment, and installs and troubleshoots electrical systems up to 480 volts. The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is distinguished from the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman/Forewoman in that the latter is a supervisory position responsible for supervising Mechanical Maintenance Workers and Utility Workers in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment found in City buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, operation, installation and troubleshooting of diesel and gas engines, centralized heating, ventilation, emergency generators and air conditioning units, related mechanical equipment and electrical systems (up to 480 volts) found in heavy duty machinery or large buildings, such as manufacturing plants, office buildings, or public buildings.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
• California State issued Forklift Certification by the end of the probationary period.
• HVAC/Refrigerant certification required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Experience with building management systems, such as Direct Digital Control (DDC), Variable Air Volume (VAV), and other related electrical control systems is desirable.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland is seeking a motivated, resourceful self-starter to join the Community Development Planning team in a dynamic fellowship role that bridges municipal planning and historic preservation. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in core planning functions while contributing meaningfully to the preservation and celebration of the City’s historic character.

In this role, the Fellow will serve as a key point of contact for residents, property owners, and community stakeholders seeking information on general planning inquiries, zoning standards, and land use regulations. The position provides practical exposure to municipal planning processes, including development review, interpretation of zoning codes, and customer service within a public-sector framework.

A central component of the fellowship will be leading a comprehensive revamp of the City’s historic preservation education and outreach efforts. This includes researching and developing accessible educational materials, enhancing digital resources, and expanding community awareness of preservation programs and incentives. The Fellow will gain experience working with state and federal historic preservation documentation requirements and processes, strengthening their understanding of regulatory compliance and cultural resource management.

Additional responsibilities will include supporting GIS-based storytelling initiatives through interactive story mapping, assisting with webpage design and content updates to improve public access to preservation resources, and contributing to the coordination of the City’s Heritage Home Awards program.

3. Technical Research: Conduct site-specific research, data collection, and documentation to support historic preservation projects and planning initiatives.

5. Website Revamp: Audit, update, and redesign the Historic Preservation section of the City’s website to create a comprehensive, user-friendly educational hub for homeowners and the community.
    
6. Interactive Story Map: Develop an engaging Historic Resource Story Map using GIS tools, featuring photos, architectural descriptions, and cultural context to enhance public understanding of Woodland’s landmark sites.
    
7. Historical Resource Development: Create and curate downloadable resources—including preservation guidelines, tax credit information, and step-by-step educational content—to support property owners in restoring and maintaining historic properties.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly. No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave. Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Supervision is received from the Fire Marshal, Battalion Chief, or Company Officer. Incumbents do not exercise supervisory responsibility over other personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

• Incumbents assist with activities of the Fire Prevention Division, including:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, running, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching, and lifting more than 50 pounds in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in creating reports, and using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near, far, night, and color vision in situations where there is viewing of maps and fire scenes. When providing emergency services, the position may be required to walk or run on uneven and slippery surfaces and climb ladders. This position’s responsibilities will work around fires, chemicals, pesticides, blood, and other potentially toxic exposures.
