The City of Millbrae has multiple openings for the Recreation Leader (Summer Camp Counselor) position! This position will focus on our Millbrae Adventure Summer Camp, working as a Camp Counselor.  Hours will vary, and applicants are expected to be available to work full camp weeks. Recreation Leaders are also expected to attend a mandatory, paid training.

Definition: Under supervision, to provide leadership to recreation programs, activities or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants; and performs related work as required.  This is a temporary part-time non-benefited position. 

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of a Summer Camp Counselor - Recreation Leader I , II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists in planning, organizing, and leading summer camp activities.
• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Maintains group and individual discipline. 
• Facilitates safe and positive camp experiences
• Follow written curriculum to implement activities including arts and crafts, group games, and sports.  
• Keeps records of attendance, participation.
• Typical duties include: implementation of camp curriculum, record keeping, maintaining supplies, and supervising groups of youth aged 3 to 12.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Special Requirements:   Vision adequate to supervise participants in recreational programs; speak clearly; ability to bend stoop or crouch; physical stamina to supervise groups of youth participating in recreational programs; ability to work off-hours, shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

Education & Experience: 

Recreation Leader I:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 15 at time of appointment.  Must possess a work-permit. No previous experience required.

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification, or be willing to obtain one. 

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Summary Description

Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the streets division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Remove blight and illegal dumps from city property such as parks, right of ways, roadways, alleys, walkways, sidewalks and refuse disposal. 
3. Remove debris, shrubbery, brush, trash, tires, appliances, electronics, and miscellaneous items.
4. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
5. Abates graffiti.
6. Maintain logs of daily activities.
7. Assist in other areas as needed.
8. Perform related duties as required.
9. Repair and replace street surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters including back filling trenches and evacuations.
10. Perform the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation work of streets, storm drain, parking lots, street lights, traffic striping, and traffic control signs and signals.
11. Remove hazards from the roadway and other public rights of way.
12. Operate a variety of motorized equipment and specialized maintenance equipment.
13. Perform repaving, patching, overlaying, chuck hole, and crack sealing repair of asphalt.
14. Perform underground service alert locating, marking and notification.
15. Lay out and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
16. Repair and maintain storm drain lift stations.
17. Conduct traffic count surveys.
18. Maintain storm detention ponds, including cleaning, repairing, and spraying weeds.
19. Respond to hazardous materials spills.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

• Salary: $6,681 - $8,612 per month.

The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents, businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. City of Sunnyvale Field Technicians work in the field when assigned to the Compliance Inspection group in the Regulatory Programs Division. Field Technicians work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector primarily in the field collecting samples from industries, restaurants and the sanitary sewer collection system in order to determine compliance with local and federal discharge limits. The Field Technicians in Compliance Inspection work closely with the Environmental Compliance Inspectors to regulate dischargers. Field technicians also perform sampling at designated drinking water locations.

The Sustainability Aide is an entry-level position that provides essential program, technical, customer service, and field support to the Sustainability Division’s solid waste, water conservation, energy, and electric vehicle (EV) charging programs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide customer and permit counter service by responding to public, contractor, and developer inquiries related to solid waste, recycling, water conservation, energy, and EV charging programs.
• Process and review Construction and Demolition (C&D) permit applications and plans, including verification of recycling requirements, authorized haulers, and Green Halo documentation.
• Support sustainability-related development review, including solid waste space planning, trash and recycling enclosure requirements, and coordination with other City departments.
• Assist with data collection, entry, tracking, and basic analysis for waste, recycling, edible food recovery, water use, debris, energy, and EV infrastructure programs.
• Support compliance and implementation of State regulatory requirements, including SB 1383 edible food recovery and organic waste diversion programs.
• Assist with GIS-based sustainability mapping, including trash and recycling enclosure mapping for development projects and updates to sustainability-related maps in coordination with the GIS team.
• Provide program support for energy and infrastructure projects, such as streetlighting replacement projects in coordination with Southern California Edison (SCE).
• Assist with sustainability budgeting support, including tracking program expenditures, maintaining records, and supporting basic budget documentation.
• Support public outreach and education efforts, including staffing events, conducting surveys, and preparing materials and documentation.

- A technology certificate from an accredited college or trade school in information technology, computer applications, web technologies, computer information systems, application development database design, programming, technology project management, or related field and five years of experience in private-sector or public-sector positions in information technology, including systems analysis work and development, system integration, or project management.
 

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience comparable to that of an Information Technology Analyst I in the City of Mountain View. Highly Desirable:

Work Schedule and Salary: 

• Flexibility regarding work schedule is necessary. Incumbents will need to be willing to work a schedule that includes part of the weekend and flexible hours. 
• The control point for this position is $152,958. The full range for this position is $122,367 - $183,550 and the full range is posted to comply with California law. That said, successful candidates can realistically expect a starting offer between $122,367 and $144,000, depending on qualifications. No matter where the starting offer falls, employees will have the opportunity to get annual merit increases for stellar performance.

The Community Development Department includes the Planning and Building divisions and works closely with the Housing and Economic Development team in the City Manager’s office. We are a dynamic staff of twelve, including several team members that have many years of service and bring deep institutional knowledge and experience working alongside newer team members who bring fresh perspective and ideas. Together, we are working on a wide range of projects and programs to provide great customer service, encourage housing development, diversify the City’s employment base, and plan for a resilient future for Belmont. This position is ideal for a planner that wants to apply their skills and experience to provide customer service, manage projects, help develop policy, and improve process in a collegial environment where humor is appreciated. The Assistant or Associate Planner will focus on current planning and will also have opportunities to work on advance planning and policy development. The Community Development leadership team is committed to providing training and growth opportunities for staff.
