Facilities Maintenance Technician II (journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for performing the full range of maintenance duties at City buildings and facilities in order to ensure that all are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City and public use. Incumbents are responsible for performing maintenance and alterations on buildings and facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, identifying and evaluating construction-related problems, and performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower level maintenance staff and is capable of performing the most complex duties assigned to the series.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician (advanced journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for providing lead supervision and training to facilities maintenance staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment, including performing the most complex duties required to ensure City buildings, facilities, and grounds are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include training, developing and scheduling Facilities Maintenance Technicians, inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities and grounds. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products.

Positions in the Facilities Maintenance Technician class series are flexibly staffed and positions are normally filled by advancement from the previous level; progression to the next level is subject to management approval and is dependent on the incumbent (i) performing the full range of duties assigned to their current level, and (ii) acquiring the knowledge, skill, and experience necessary to meet the minimum qualifications for the next level of the series.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the position of Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist in the Administrative Services & Human Resources/Risk Management Department, Facilities Division.

In this exciting opportunity, the Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist will work under direct supervision of the Facilities & Fleet Superintendent and will be responsible for maintaining and constructing all City buildings, structures, and park facilities. The Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the Facilities Maintenance Specialist in that the Senior Specialist is expected to perform the more challenging and complex tasks and is expected to perform certain administrative functions in support of the Facilities Division. This role offers a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on work. You'll have the opportunity to lead initiatives that impact the community directly, such as energy efficiency upgrades, safety improvements, and facility renovations. These tasks include a range of semi-skilled construction and repair work involving the use of basic tools and trade-related equipment. Duties may involve repairing electrical equipment and wiring systems; fixing windows, doors, cabinets, and other building components; maintaining interior and exterior furniture such as tables, chairs, benches, and bookcases; performing general plumbing repairs and installations; and carrying out basic concrete and masonry work. 

Additionally, you must be able to diagnose mechanical problems and methodically troubleshoot any issues occurring with building systems, machines, and equipment. This role also serves as a trainer and provides leadership to the team on specific tasks and projects.

TEEN CENTER/ KIDS NIGHT OUT PROGRAM STAFF

Salary Range: $17.37 to $28.95/hour depending on experience.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per fiscal year); predominantly afternoon/early evening schedule with some weekends and concurrent with the school year.

SUPERVISION

General supervision received from the Program Coordinator. May exercise supervision of other staff depending on position.

GENERAL DUTIES

Responsible for general oversight of and ensuring the safety of the after-school youth programming. Specific responsibilities to include:

• Organize and execute a variety of daily and weekly activities for participants ranging in ages 5 –14   including art, crafts, and games
• Mentor and role model, strive to inspire and guide participants towards their full potential
• Maintain accurate attendance records on a daily and weekly basis
• Effectively facilitate and/or lead small and large groups of youth.
• Communicate effectively with participants, co-workers, parents, and supervisors
• Willing and available to work flexible hours as needed.
• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.

Middle School (Teen Centers) 
Our Teen Centers provide a secure and entertaining atmosphere for middle school students to spend their after-school hours. The centers are furnished with game consoles, sports equipment, board games, and other amusing activities. We operate on early release days and select non-school days, but we are closed during holidays.

Kids’ Night Out and Kids’ Day Out Programs
Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator and direct supervision of the Youth Program Assistant, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the Kids’ Night Out and Kids’ Day Out programs, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11. Kids’ Night Out takes place every other Friday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm and Kids’ Day Out takes place during the week there is no school in session excluding holidays.

The San Mateo County Attorney's Office is seeking candidates for the 2026 Michael P. Murphy Public Law Fellowship.

In 2014, the County of San Mateo established a Fellowship position in honor of former San Mateo County Counsel Michael P. Murphy. Mr. Murphy served in the County Counsel’s office from 1982 to 2011, the last four years as County Counsel. Vacancies in Bay Area county counsel offices typically attract many qualified applicants and new attorneys are generally not considered for these positions. This Fellowship provides an opportunity for new attorneys to receive training and experience in advising and litigating on behalf of government agencies as they begin their legal careers.

Attorneys in the San Mateo County Attorney’s Office (previously known as the County Counsel’s Office) are generalists. We provide legal advice to County departments, school districts, and special districts; litigate civil cases in State and Federal courts and before administrative agencies; and manage calendar assignments in Dependency, Probate, Lanterman Petris Short Act, and other specialized areas of law. Fellows are given the opportunity to experience a wide range of public sector work, in litigation, public policy, and advice roles. The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects with a particular emphasis on Land Development. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.
• Recommend and prepare conditions of approval for Planning entitlement projects.
• Review private and public development improvement plans and subdivision maps for compliance with state and local codes, regulations and standards, and compliance with the requirements of project approval.
• Review development encroachment permits, building permits, grading and sitework permits and other permit applications, including technical reports and documents such as hydrology and hydraulic reports, stormwater management reports, and geotechnical reports.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
