Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in personnel, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional human resources experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity, are required. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license is also required. Experience in public sector HR or labor relations is highly desirable. Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $132,749 to $162,905. Remote work is not available for this position. The City is proud to offer a competitive total compensation package with the following highlights:

Water Resources Operators perform duties in the operation, treatment, reclamation, and disposal of wastewater. THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Field Services Manager or designee. Exercises general supervision over supervisory, professional, technical and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.

The County of San Mateo's Sustainability Department seeks well-qualified applicants for the position of Senior Sustainability Specialist – Climate Action on the Climate Protection team.

The Climate Protection team works to:

• Catalyze regional climate solutions by forming impact networks and partnering with cities for resource and economic efficiency.
• Convert buildings and transportation from gas to electric to target largest emissions sources and improve community health 
• Achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 in unincorporated communities 

The Senior Sustainability Specialist – Climate Action will:

• Lead the RICAPS Climate Collaborative to support San Mateo County cities in developing climate action plans and implementing coordinated initiatives to reduce emissions. This includes hosting and facilitating monthly Collaborative and working group meetings, providing direction to technical assistance partners, and guiding strategic planning for the Collaborative to strengthen collective action on climate solutions. 
• Foster peer learning, idea sharing, and problem solving among Collaborative participants, and lead pilots and collaborative implementation strategies, including joint grant applications.
• Serve on the leadership committee of the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) quarterly regional forum. 
• Provide guidance and coordination with staff leading the San Mateo County Energy Watch, BayREN, and Peninsula Clean Energy programs to encourage municipalities to promote them to their community members. 
• Mentor junior team members to optimize implementation and coordination between programs to meet emissions targets, better serve community needs, and make strategic improvements to program delivery, meetings, reports, budgets, and presentations.

This is a full-time, classified, and fully benefited position in the Sustainability Department. 

The ideal candidate will:

• Be an experienced project manager able to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously, prioritizing efforts in alignment with established goals. 
• Build relationships and strategic partnerships with County-level staff, departments, agencies, and non-government organizations to help achieve local and regional climate action goals. Have a solid familiarity with a breadth of sustainability related topics, especially energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainable transportation, preferably in the local government context.

About the County  

San Juan Water District Seeks an Electrical Instrumentation Technician

The Electrical Instrumentation Technician is part of the Operations team, performing specialized and technical duties associated with the troubleshooting, maintenance, installation and repair of electrical gear, breakers, electronic equipment, and instrumentation controls associated with surface water treatment plant, pump stations, distributions system facilities, wholesale meters, and medium voltage solar site component. 

Duties Include: 

• Performing corrective and preventative maintenance on electrical switchgear, breakers, transformers, process control systems, flowmeters, transmitters, gauges and other instrumentation and control equipment.
• Performing skilled duties related to the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, installation, and testing of instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controller’s (PLC’s), telemetry, electrical and electronic components and instruments used in treatment plants, distribution systems and solar fields. 
• Recognizing, identifying and correcting problems with control and instrumentation equipment.
• Planning, installing and maintaining sophisticated electrical, instrumentation, and control systems; developing and using diagnostic problem solving techniques.
• Inspecting, adjusting, installing, calibrating, and repairing electrical and electronic equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), breakers, transformers, motors, transducers, motor control centers, switches, wiring, electronic circuits, meter transmitters, (Cl2) sensors, and related devices.
• Installing, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting control systems and water quality instruments, analyzers and electrical systems as they relate to water treatment, distribution, and solar systems.
• Working collaboratively with engineering to maintain and modify drawings of District’s Electrical Systems, PLC’s and SCADA systems.
• Assisting in new project design, inspection, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical 
• Systems, including but not limited to, submittals, RFIs, change orders, site layout and planning of specific drawings.

To be considered, candidates should be knowledgeable of principles and practices of electrical theory and electrical circuits, practices and techniques used in the design, installation, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of radio telemetry, cellular communication, 4160V solar field, electrical and electronic equipment, instrumentation and controls as they relate to water treatment and distribution systems. 

The qualifications include:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with additional supplementary course work in electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, or equivalent material pertaining to the field of electronics AND
• Three years of journey level experience in the design, construction, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic equipment, instrument systems, and control devices common to an industrial facility, water treatment plant, and distribution systems. 
• Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's class C license.

ABOUT THE POSITION

San Juan Water District Seeks a Customer Service Technician

The Customer Service Technician is responsible to provide customer service and support to the public, responding to inquiries and complaints, receiving and processing payments and fees, and assisting with new connection and permit applications.  The District can hire at the I or II level, depending on experience. 

Duties Include:

• Providing customer service in person, by phone, and electronically; responding to inquiries and complaints regarding utility services, rate structures, billing, payments, hydrant permits, and service orders.
• Receiving, processing, and documenting customer utility payments, fees, and reimbursements; processing payments received by mail, phone, in person, and electronically.
• Assisting in resolving water-related service complaints.

The City of Berkeley is currently accepting applications for Hazardous Materials Specialist I or Hazardous Materials Specialist II in the Planning and Development Department’s Toxics Management Division (TMD). TMD serves as a California-Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) and is responsible for implementing, inspecting, and enforcing hazardous materials and environmental regulations on behalf of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), and the State Fire Marshal within the City of Berkeley. In addition to CUPA program implementation, TMD also leads stormwater pollution prevention programs and responds to environmental complaints to help protect public health and the environment.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is:

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in biology, physical or environmental science, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field, or registration as an Environmental Health Specialist.

Hazardous Materials Specialist I

• In addition to the education requirement, some experience in hazardous materials management, environmental health inspections, industrial hygiene practices, or a similar hazardous materials program is desirable.

Hazardous Materials Specialist II

• In addition to the education requirement, two (2) years of experience in hazardous materials management, environmental health inspections, industrial hygiene practices, or a similar hazardous materials program.
• Possession of a Master’s degree in a qualifying field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
• Must obtain and maintain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a California Underground Storage Tank (UST) Inspector.
