About the Position: The Supervising Ranger is a dynamic and impactful leadership role with broad responsibility, exercising sound judgement and meaningful independence, while overseeing patrol operations across Midpen preserves. The position leads and mentors a team of sworn district peace officers, coordinates emergency response efforts, builds positive relationships with the public and key stakeholders, represents the District at public meetings, and works collaboratively with departments throughout the organization.

Successful candidates are people-focused leaders who can inspire and guide staff in both day-to-day operations and critical incidents.  The role calls for clear and effective communication, the ability to work with tact and diplomacy, and a commitment to public safety and resource protection.  Responsibilities also include enforcing applicable laws and regulations; administering first aid, providing Emergency Medical Response as a first responder, operating emergency patrol vehicles and two-way radios; and supporting wildland fire suppression efforts  as needed. Assigned Location: Midpen is currently seeking to fill one Supervising Ranger position, reporting to an Area Superintendent. This assignment is scheduled to begin in July 2026, and will be based at the Foothills Field Office in Cupertino (Address: 501 Rancho San Antonio Drive, Cupertino, CA 95014). The District reserves the right to reassign employees to other locations as staffing and service requirements evolve.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments.  Outdoor work includes exposure to inclement weather conditions. Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License (or ability to obtain one upon appointment for candidates possessing an out of state license).
• Possession of a District approved Law Enforcement Training certification.
• Possession of a valid California Penal Code 832 certificate, for appointment as a peace officer.
• Possession of a certificate of completion, or ability to complete, the District’s Field Training Program.
• Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certificate or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Professional Rescuer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, the level of certification in the Incident Command System courses as specified under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a District approved Wildland Fire Suppression Training certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a POST FTO certificate.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain if assigned, a POST FTO-SAC (Field Training Program Coordinator’s Course) Certificate.

Peace Officer Standards: This position requires the incumbent meet the standards for being a Peace Officer as outlined in Government Code Section 1031. Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Area Manager who will plan, organize, manage, oversee, and participate in all activities of the Land Stewardship & Trails Department. This position reports to the Land Stewardship & Trails Manager and oversees 19 staff with four direct reports and seasonal employees. The Woodland Community Services Department is seeking applications for part-time Lifeguard / Instructor's Aide positions. Under general supervision, Lifeguards will provide a safe environment for all aquatic programs, help prevent loss of life or injury to patrons, and perform related maintenance duties as needed. Some evening and weekend hours are required, and mandatory pre-season in-service training sessions will take place in June.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforces pool rules and regulations; rescues individuals in distress and provides First Aid/CPR as needed; maintains pool records and reports, including program registrations and safety reports; adheres to City policies and procedures; and performs other assigned duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:      

• At least 15 years of age.

Experience:    

• No prior experience is required.
• Recommended experience includes exposure to swimming lesson instruction, working with youth in an organized environment, participation in the Junior Lifeguard program, or experience as an Instructor's Aide or Lifeguard.

Knowledge of:           

• Familiarity with lifeguard rescue and life-saving techniques.
• The American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and basic pool policies and procedures, or equivalent.

Ability to:       

• Demonstrate all lifeguard training skills effectively. 
• Swim proficiently and showcase various swimming techniques. 
• Communicate clearly in both oral and written forms. 
• Collaborate well with colleagues and others encountered during work.

Certifications:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with CPR and First Aid (or equivalent)
• Ability to obtain training in First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22 equivalent)

About the Position:  The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing all aspects of facilities maintenance for Midpen’s Administrative Office, including building operations, vehicle fleet inspections, landscaped grounds, parking areas, and various physical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, painting, assembly, construction, electrical, data cabling, and security systems.  This unique position has a foundation in older residential property improvements in a rural setting, including spring systems, old style construction including log framing, historic farm building construction, multiple materials and additions to the buildings are all aspects and considerations for repairs and tenant improvements. This position is also responsible for non-routine repairs and improvements at Midpen’s field properties and performs preventative maintenance tasks, repairs, and minor improvement projects. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will coordinate  and oversee Midpen’s utilization of contractors and act as a point of contact for a wide range  of maintenance and repair tasks. Successful performance in this role requires broad  knowledge of facility maintenance trades and technical principles, as well as a professional background and the ability to effectively collaborate  with other Midpen departments. Work Environment:  This position is part of the  Facilities & Fleet Department and will be required to work onsite Monday through Friday on a 9/80 schedule.  Work will be performed at Midpen’s administrative office in Los Altos, field facilities, and also at residential properties located primarily in the field. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, be called back after hours and on weekends or respond to and perform work in emergency situations as required.  When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak, wildlife and rodent inhabitants.  Duties will include building and facility work that will require climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of conditions, as well as in an office environment. Positions in this classification must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds and must possess the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with the use of proper equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in facilities management, construction project management or a related field or training in applicable trades, and

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced maintenance worker with a specialization in irrigation systems to fill the position of Irrigation Technician with the City's Park and Recreations Department. The position performs a variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment in all City landscape irrigation systems. This is an advanced journey-level maintenance classification with specialization in irrigation systems.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or equivalent.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience working in landscape/irrigation, public works or parks maintenance experience, including experience in design of irrigation systems.

Licenses, Certificates, Registration

• Possession of a valid California Class "C" and Class "B" Driver's License. Must obtain valid California Class “B” Driver’s License within six months of appointment.
• Possession of a Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers Certificate from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• A Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certificate is desirable.
• An Irrigation Technician Certificate is desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Parks department will make the hiring decision.

The City of Foster City is seeking a Police Sergeant to join our Police Department.  This leadership position is crucial in maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and fostering community relations with our diverse city. 

Under general or direct supervision, the Police Sergeant plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of officers and non-sworn staff on an assigned shift within the Police Department. They perform the full range of field and office work in connection with patrol, traffic, investigative, youth services, and training programs. The Police Sergeant assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court,  fosters cooperative working relationships with other City departments, outside agencies, and the public served, and provides complex staff assistance to management staff in areas of expertise.

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by sixty (60) semester units of college level coursework in criminal justice, criminology, police science or a related field at an accredited institution.

Experience:  Three (3) years of full-time, increasingly responsible, sworn law enforcement experience with a California Law Enforcement Agency which includes lead responsibility. One (1) year of first line supervisor experience is desirable.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, and a good driving record, to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession of a Basic Certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).
• Possession and maintenance of firearms qualification.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under immediate supervision (Wastewater Operator I) or general supervision (Wastewater Operator II), performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the City's sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment plant.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Wastewater Operator I - This is the entry level class in the Wastewater Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Wastewater Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Wastewater Operator II - This is the full journey level class within the Wastewater Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Wastewater Operator I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and they are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Operate and adjust controls on treatment plant equipment and machinery, such as valves, pumps and motors.

2. Grease and clean plant equipment; read and interpret meters and gauges; regulate plant effluent.

3. Monitor, repair, and maintain wastewater system lift stations; remove debris; disassemble and clean pumps; perform minor repairs when necessary.

4. Respond to emergency calls as needed; locate problems and operate sewer cleaning equipment to clear stoppages. 

5. Collect samples and perform various lab tests.

6. Inspect and make repairs to plant equipment.

7. Perform general plant maintenance work such as sweeping, cleaning, sanding and painting of equipment and facilities.

8. Assist in operating video inspection system.

9. Perform general grounds maintenance work.

10. Rod sanitary sewers; install and repair sanitary sewer laterals and trunk lines.

11. Enter and work in permitted confined spaces and underground trenches.

12. Locate, mark and notify sewer lines per USA (underground service alert) requirements.

13. Observe and enforce safety precautions. 

14. May temporarily be assigned to work with other City departments as needed.

15. Operate trucks, tractors and other motorized equipment of comparable size and complexity.

16. Perform related duties as required.
