The Position 

The City of San Bruno Fire Department is offering a unique career opportunity to those who desire a challenge and wish to work in a dynamic urban setting. The City seeks a self-motivated Fire Inspector to ensure that the City’s fire inspection program provides an excellent level of service to the surrounding community. Under the general supervision of a Fire Battalion Chief / Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector performs the full range of fire inspection duties including fire and life safety inspection, plan review, code enforcement activities, and assistance with fire investigations. 

The Fire Inspector is a hard-working and dedicated individual with experience and ability to perform a full range of fire prevention duties, including inspecting residential, commercial and industrial units for compliance with safety laws and ordinances, as well as maintaining complete and accurate records of fire safety codes, regulations, ordinances, inspections, violations, and penalties. 

In addition to the technical duties involved with fire inspection, the Fire Inspector will have opportunities to educate and enrich the San Bruno community by planning and conducting public education programs and outreach regarding fire prevention, make presentations to civic organizations and school groups, as well as observing fire drills in schools, convalescent homes, businesses, and other places within the City.  

The Fire Inspector will also work cooperatively with internal City departments on inspections and projects, provide expert guidance and direct support for plan check reviews, including providing professional-level reviews, comments, and recommendations to ensure that work conforms to current fire code standards and established City policy and procedure.  

This position upholds fire inspection best practices, serves as an integral team player and demonstrates flexibility, cooperation, and communication, adheres to labor and safety guidelines, ensures compliance with policy and procedures, respects the cultural and ethnic diversity of the community, represents the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public, and performs in a manner that upholds the values of the City. 

In addition to one year of experience in fire and life safety prevention inspection or a related field  (two years of firefighting experience may be substituted for the one year of fire and life safety experience experience), a special requirement to be 21 years of age or older (per Health and Safety Penal Code 830.37), and the successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.  

Ideal Candidate 

The ideal candidate will possess a California State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector I and/or II certification and certification from the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) or International Code Council (ICC), and demonstrate a successful track record of:

• Communicating clearly and effectively with business owners, contractors, City staff, and the public. 

• Working collaboratively as an integral member of the Fire Department team.

The City of Menlo Park is currently accepting applications to fill a Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Public Works Department. A Mechanic performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair services on light and heavy city vehicles and equipment, such as automobiles, storm/sewer trucks, aerial bucket trucks, dump trucks shuttle buses, construction equipment, lawn mowers, small equipment and stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level or advanced journey-level class mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported by supervisory review and direction.

Equipment Mechanic

This is the journey-level class in the Equipment Mechanic classification series responsible for performing the full range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, gasoline and diesel repair and maintenance required for City vehicles, and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from other maintenance class series in that it performs more highly skilled technical and mechanical maintenance activities. This class is distinguished from Senior Equipment Mechanic in that the latter leads, trains, and oversees assigned work and performs the more complex and difficult work in mechanical maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment.

Senior Equipment Mechanic

This is the advanced journey-level class in the equipment mechanic classification series performing the most complex duties required to ensure that City vehicles and equipment are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City use, and providing lead direction and training to full-time and temporary staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This classification is distinguished from the Fleet Supervisor in that the latter has oversight of the entire fleet division, system- assignments and projects, and responsibility for organizing, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of assigned staff involved in maintenance operations.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Business Operations Coordinator (BOC) is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring efficient systems to manage the District’s business office, properties, entrepreneurial enterprises, service and vendor contracts, media management, and IT support services. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates, facility requirements, and workplace safety.

The BOC is a full-time exempt position that reports directly to the CEO.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. 1. Provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to ensure effective implementation and community impact.
   1. Coordinates District-sponsored and community outreach events—in both virtual and in-person formats—in collaboration with District leadership.
   2. Provides oversight of the District office operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, inventory and supplies management, document, and key security, tracking annual policy review and report filing requirements, and utilization of classroom facilities.
   3. Maintains a clean, well-organized office environment for team and visitors.
   4. Assists the Strategic Initiatives Director in managing the Community Health Investment portfolio, including utilizing and maintaining the District’s grant management software to track and support the community grants program.
   5. Oversees and manages district office operations and leasing budgets.
   6. Maintains IT services, triaging issues, tracking performance of various pieces of equipment, and helping identify IT issues that may benefit from more user training.
   7. Assists with accounting tasks as directed by CEO, including processing bank deposits and printing checks with Staff Accountant.
   8. Maintains a system for managing and regularly auditing vendor contracts to ensure compliance with performance obligations and identify opportunities for cost and service improvements.
   9. Contributes to the overall success of the District by providing support to programs and initiatives as assigned by the CEO.
2. Serving as primary PHCD contact for tenants, property manager, and vendors serving the eight District-owned properties This includes such activities as:
   1. Tracks lease terms and rent increases and taking timely, appropriate actions via Doorloop.
   2. Maintains effective tenant relationships with professionals and their staff.
   3. Establishes and carrying out a preventative maintenance program for all buildings in collaboration with the CFO and property manager.
   4. Primary liaison for facilities consultants
   5. Makes periodic rounds to ensure tenants are compliant with their property maintenance obligations.
   6. Works with leasing agent when a vacancy occurs.
3. Overseeing and strengthening all District communication channels, ensuring consistency, compliance, and effective public engagement.
   1. Manages all District websites are compliant with regulatory and special district transparency requirements, content is current, and sites are “user-friendly”
   2. Serves as primary liaison with the District’s communications and website professionals
   3. Serves as primary point person for coordinating, producing, and tracking analytics of external communications for websites, e-newsletter, social media, and related materials, in collaboration with the CEO, Directors, and District communications and marketing professionals.
4. In the absence of the Executive Assistant:
   1. Provides administrative support to Board Members, Board Committees, including scheduling meetings, preparing and distributing noticed meeting materials, and coordinating meeting logistics.
   2. Supports the CEO and Board with daily calendar management, communications, event and conference bookings, annual board policy review, staff meetings, and District transparency recertifications.
5. And all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience supporting administrative staff
• Working for or with government/public agencies in California (preferred, not required)
• Experience with a range of standard office equipment
• Experience with technology modalities, including setting up of devices and light technology troubleshooting
• Excellent experience with PC/ including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Google
• Suite, Adobe Pro, WordPress, BoardDocs, Mailchimp, and virtual teleconferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, Google)
• Ability to work with a wide variety of constituents and public elected leaders
• Ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor in all settings
• Valid CA Driver’s license and a vehicle form of transportation

COMPENSATION & BENEFIT S
This is a full-time position. Compensation range based on experience: $55,000 - $85,000.

This recruitment seeks a team to support the City Clerk in a citywide digitizing project involving historical files, records, maps, drawings, and related materials.  The project is in progress and will likely run through June/July with team members working between 16~36 hours per week, depending on their availability and preferences.  Team members will work collaboratively in groups of three to four and must have the ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

The Vehicle and Equipment Manager, under the direction of the Road Services Deputy Director, plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and operations of the Vehicle and Equipment Services section of the Public Works Department, including all aspects of automotive and equipment operations, such as preventative maintenance programs, accounting and equipment management systems, and Capital Improvement plans related to plant renovations and fleet replacement; and perform related duties as assigned.

The Vehicle and Equipment Services Section maintains, inspects, services, and repairs County motor vehicles including school and other buses, trucks, equipment, Sheriff's Office vehicles, and motor pool vehicles. Our service and repair stations are located in Redwood City and San Mateo.

• Plan, coordinate and direct the activities and operations of the section.
• Perform or supervise long range planning to anticipate and prepare for County needs related to vehicle and equipment use and related financing.
• Identify, prioritize and coordinate all Capital Improvement Projects for vehicle and equipment maintenance facilities; assign and review work of professional and technical staff.
• Develop, evaluate and implement policies, workflow procedures, standards, goals and objectives for assigned functions; install management improvements and practices.
• Prepare the section budget, project revenues and expenditures, monitor section fiscal activities, and establish rates and fees.
• Represent the Department to various user groups; conduct or attend a variety of committee, and staff related meetings; coordinate plans for projects and the provision of services; explain policies and answer questions.
• Prepare reports for executive review on the probable effects on the County of various projects, programs and legislation related to vehicle and equipment use proposed by local, regional and federal agencies.
• Coordinate the Vehicle and Equipment Services section activities with other divisions, departments and agencies.
• Participate in negotiations with grant agencies and regulatory bodies.
• Manage and participate in personnel actions for the section including selection, performance planning, discipline, training and development.

Experience: Four years of responsible administration of a fleet or equipment maintenance facility which includes writing specifications for equipment and vehicle acquisition.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of management including organizing work, long-term planning, delegation of authority and accountability.
• Principles and practices of municipal public works equipment and fleet operations to include working knowledge of repair, overhaul, assembly, modification and maintenance of vehicles, road equipment, pumps and generators.
• Administrative principles and practices including budget development and management, personnel management, systems management, contracting and procurement.
• Practices and procedures as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs policies and operational needs.
• Pertinent local, state and federal laws, rules, regulations and enforcement procedures.

The San Mateo County Public Works Department is seeking an experienced Road Maintenance Manager with increasingly responsible experience in supervising the work of road maintenance or road construction crews. The Road Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises, through subordinate supervisors, the activities of several crews involved in the maintenance, repair and construction of County roads in an assigned area; and performs a variety of technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility.

The Road Maintenance Division of County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is responsible for routine and emergency repairs to over 315 miles of road surfaces, culverts, shoulders, drainage facilities, and roadside vegetation on roads within the public right-of-way of San Mateo County's unincorporated districts. There are multiple vacancies to be filled throughout the department. 

The position is located at the Grant Corporation Yard, 752 Chestnut Street in Redwood City and will oversee either the Bayside maintenance crews or the Coastside maintenance crews.

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
