The position will be filled at either the Water Distribution Operator I or Water Distribution Operator II classification, dependent upon candidate qualifications. The salary ranges for each classification are as follows:

• Water Distribution Operator I: $35.87 – $48.43 hourly
• Water Distribution Operator II: $39.45 – $53.27 hourly

WORK SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS:

The District observes a 4/10 work schedule, Monday-Thursday, 10-hour days. The regular work schedule for the Water Distribution Operator I/II position is 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Water Distribution Operators also perform Standby Duty on a rotating basis. Standby Duty begins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and shall end at 5:00 p.m. on the following Tuesday. Per CHWD policy, employees assigned to Standby Duty must reside within fifteen (15) miles of the District headquarters while performing Standby Duty.

Water Distribution Operators are directly involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of valves, mains, services, and related potable water distribution system facilities and equipment. Performs related work as required.

Water Distribution Operator I - This is the entry-level class in the Water Distribution Operator series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Water Distribution Operator I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of the assigned area of responsibility are learned.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

            

POLICE ASSISTANT

Salary Range: $20.84 to $32.41/hour; non-benefitted position, DOE

 

DEFINITION

The Police Assistant is a civilian, non-sworn, uniformed position that is responsible for a variety of customer service-based interactions with the community. Duties include non-hazardous enforcement of municipal parking laws and regulations as well as clerical front counter tasks related to phone and walk-in contacts at the police department.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Lieutenant and Traffic Sergeant. Projects are assigned, and the person usually works with very little supervision. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Handle confidential administrative duties at the front desk. Greets telephone callers and visitors to department; screens and handles inquiries of a general or specific nature; takes messages.
• Takes information from the public regarding thefts, accidents, lost and found property, and other incidents that do not require the presence of a sworn law enforcement officer at the scene; completes standard police reports for review by staff supervisors or sworn supervisory staff.

• Perform a variety of research & staff work; prepare reports.
• Maintain records using computers and various filing systems.
• Coordinate Parking Permits for business employees.
• Enforces parking ordinances and the Town’s Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program, issues parking citations; follows-up on complaints regarding abandoned or illegally parked vehicles; issues citations and arranges for the towing or other abatement measures. Receive and respond to complaints and reports of routine parking incidents from the public.
• Respond to public complaint of abandoned vehicles; document and schedule tows for abandoned vehicles; and ensures proper disposition of illegally parked vehicles; patrols city streets and issues citations on vehicles parked in an unlawful manner. Mark vehicles to detect abuse of timed areas.
• Operate computer equipment and two-way radio as related to employment.
• Directs traffic at crash, crime, and/or congestion scenes.
• Investigates and prepares reports on burglary, petty theft, lost and found property, missing persons, property damage, accidents, Town Ordinance violations, abandoned vehicles and other incidents.
• Assists with maintaining evidence and property in the Evidence Room. Coordinates receiving and cataloging evidence and found property, maintaining records of property movement, processing, and disposition.
• Assist with transporting, storing, photographing, releasing, or destroying property pursuant to state law and established procedures.
• As required testifies in court.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.
• Must be flexible with hours and available to work some evenings and occasional weekends.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge:

Ability to:     

Effectively communicate verbally and through written correspondence; understand and follow verbal and written instructions, prepare clear and accurate reports, work cooperatively with others contacted in the course of work, handle multiple work requests under pressure, read and interpret maps, type at a speed of no less than 40WPM and have excellent customer service skills. Operation of radio communication equipment is required. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and stand outdoors for extended periods while performing traffic control assignments. Required to wear safety equipment, including a vest, belt, and uniform.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience: 

One (1) year of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience involving substantial public contact, or the exchange of detailed verbal information, including interpreting/clarifying rules, regulations, policies, or procedures and handling complaints as a primary element of the work performed. THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position assigned to field operations to patrol for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations within the philosophy of community oriented policing.  Incumbents are normally expected to solve most work problems independently and to refer to supervisory personnel only those matters which involve policy decisions, technical questions and unusual problems at the entry level and make recommendations at the advanced level.

Under the general direction of the Community Development Director, the HCSM will plan, direct, and oversee the operations and programs of the Housing and Community Services Division and provide leadership and oversight of the development and administration of housing programs and grant-funded initiatives that support long-term housing affordability and stability for residents, including unhoused and at-risk populations. Working collaboratively with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, regional partners, and community stakeholders, the HCSM will help implement innovative housing solutions and advance strategic initiatives aligned with City goals and community priorities.

This position is an exempt, mid-management level position that must exercise competent discretion and judgement in the performance of duties and interactions with others. This position will be included with the Gilroy Management Association employee group.

COMMUNITY RESILIENCE COORDINATOR

$8,429.47 – $11,577.50 Monthly, Plus Excellent Benefits

The salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. However, initial salary placement will typically be at the lower end of the range and will not exceed 97% of the range maximum. Placement within the range will be based on the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications. Progression through the range may occur over time, subject to continued service, good performance evaluations, and the City’s administrative policies.

This is a grant funded position that is funded through February 4, 2029. 

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

This position is full-time on-site position that actively supports department operations.  

Future MOU salary increases: 2.5% on 7/1/27.

Under direct supervision of the Assistant City Administrator, the Community Resilience Coordinator will develop, implement and lead comprehensive local resilience vision, strategy and planning related to the community’s emergency preparedness and responsive programs. Emphasis will be placed on services and programs for populations that are more at-risk during disasters due to lack of resources and education. Additional responsibilities include developing solutions to reduce disaster risks, securing and managing mitigation grant funding, delivering community resilience education and training, and effectively engaging, partnering, and collaborating with a variety of officials, local, state, and federal agencies, businesses, community services, both public and private, concerning the related work and goals of the City. Moreover, the CRC will undertake related special projects with citywide significance, and perform other related duties as required. This position is considered essential personnel during City emergencies and is expected to be available to staff and support the Emergency Operations Center.
