The City of Sunnyvale is accepting applications for the Regular, Full-Time Maintenance Worker 2 position with five current vacancies in the Water Distribution Division (4) and Sewer and Storm Division (1) in the Environmental Services Department.

The Maintenance Worker 2 will perform a broad range of duties in the basic construction and maintenance trades. This position generally works as a member of a crew, but may be given independent assignments and may, under direction, lead a small crew of trainees or temporary workers and assist with training. Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks, Recreation Facilities Supervisor vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor classification is $112,563.36 - $137,220.72 annually.

The Department of Public Works is seeking experienced individuals for the position of Road Equipment Supervisor. 

The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years' of increasing responsible experience overseeing a crew involved in the operation of heavy equipment in road construction and maintenance activities, as well as experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and participating in projects involving heavy equipment in construction and maintenance of roadways, bridges, channels, landscape areas, and storm drains and sewers. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience utilizing e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, project management, maintenance management systems.

 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, prioritize, and coordinate projects with the Road Maintenance Managers.
• Supervise, train, evaluate and instruct a group of equipment operators, drivers, and laborers.
• Ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures.
• Estimate and order materials.
• Assist the Vehicle and Equipment Manager with writing specifications for new equipment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 
 Four years of experience in the operation of rollers, bulldozers, backhoes, mowers and graders.
 
Knowledge of:

• Supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, employee training and evaluation.
• Basic mathematics.
• Provision of the California Vehicle Code applying to the operation of vehicles.
• Safety practices in the operation of heavy construction equipment.
• Capabilities of all types of heavy equipment.
• Road maintenance and construction operations, materials and procedures.

Licensure/Certification:

The Position

The Town of Los Altos Hills is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Planner to serve as a key leader within the Community Development Department. Reporting to the Community Development Director, the Principal Planner will assist in the management and administration of planning operations, provide leadership and technical guidance to planning staff, coordinate consultant resources, and oversee the Town's most complex current and long-range planning initiatives.

This position is intended to strengthen the Town's planning capacity by providing senior-level expertise and project management support across a broad range of planning activities. The Principal Planner will play a critical role in advancing major policy initiatives, implementing state-mandated planning programs, managing complex development projects, and ensuring the Department remains responsive to the needs of residents, elected officials, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in urban planning, city planning, environmental planning, public administration, architecture, geography, or a closely related field.

Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience, including substantial experience managing complex planning projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and leading policy development and implementation efforts.

Experience in both current planning and long-range planning is highly desirable.

A master's degree in urban planning, public administration, environmental planning, or a related field is desirable.

Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred. Candidates without AICP certification must demonstrate equivalent senior-level professional planning experience and expertise.

Demonstrated experience with Housing Element implementation, General Plan updates, Safety Element planning, wildfire resilience, climate adaptation, zoning administration, CEQA compliance, consultant management, and public engagement processes is highly desirable.

Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing technical leadership to professional planning staff is desirable.

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

The Human Resources Operations Manager oversees a variety of labor relations and benefits administration duties and serves on the bargaining team during union negotiations.  They will work closely with the HR Director to make important decisions for the HR Department, such as organizational structure changes and staff oversight responsibilities while also serving as a subject matter expert to fellow HR staff and department heads.  They will oversee HR staff and contribute to the development of the Department's annual budget.  This role focuses on supporting the HR team in union relations, meet and confer challenges, grievance responses, and contract negotiations, while supporting department managers through the employee coaching and progressive discipline process.  The Human Resources Operations Manager will use a high degree of accuracy, independent judgment, and discretionary decision-making with respect to interpretation and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), City policies and procedures, the Employer-Employee Relations Resolution and Public Employment Relations Board rulings.  This position also provides oversight for employee benefits administration, and worker's compensation programs for the City.  

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Human Resources Department has one (1) vacancy to be filled at either the Human Resources Operation Manager or Principal Human Resources Analyst classification.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in labor relations, collective bargaining, contract negotiations, and employee relations, including grievance response, workplace investigations, performance management, and providing guidance and coaching to supervisors and managers.  Experience with benefits administration, day-to-day payroll functions, and local government operations is highly desirable.  The successful candidate will be results-driven, adaptable, and customer-service orientated, with the ability to excel in a highly autonomous environment and effectively support eight bargaining units.  

This individual will possess strong analytical and strategic thinking skills enabling them to navigate complex human resources issues and develop practical, innovative solutions.  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential to building and maintaining productive relationships with department leaders, elected and appointed officials, employees, and labor representatives.

• Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the department, assists in administering the department's budget.

• Manages and directs the City's employee benefits program, including leave management programs; negotiates with insurance carriers on rates and coverage; works with insurance brokers to obtain the best rates and coverage for a variety of products.
• Participate in labor relations activities, including contract negotiations, meet and confer sessions and meet and consult sessions.

• Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities which would typically be acquired through:
  • Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree with major course work in business or public administration, industrial relations, human resources management or a closely related field, AND
  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in public administration required, including two (2) years of direct supervision preferably in a public agency.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration or a related field is preferred.

Principal Human Resources Analyst

• Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities which would typically be acquired through:
  • Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree with major course work in business or public administration, industrial relations, human resources management or a closely related field, AND
  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in public administration required, including two (2) years of increasingly responsible work in the areas of labor and employee relations and/or Worker's Compensation.

DEFINITION

The City of Live Oak Internship Program is designed to attract, develop and mentor innovative individuals interested in pursuing a career in the public sector. The program seeks dedicated students who, through their academic achievement and/or employment history, have demonstrated high potential for a career in local government. Interns are encouraged to apply for full-time positions with the City after their internship is completed.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Interns generally work under close supervision and perform simple or routine tasks while learning to perform the more difficult and responsible ones. Interns are hired as limited term employees and employment service is dependent on the length of the project or the particular City service needs.

Intern positions are by their nature temporary employment and Interns are not eligible for City benefit programs unless specifically approved in writing by the City Manager.

The work schedule is typically part-time 15-20 hours per week with flexibility to work 30 to 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the Intern and the City program assigned. Interns with significant experience in their assigned area may be eligible to move along the assigned Salary Band with the specific approval of the City Manager.

Intern positions are not permanently funded and may be terminated at any time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• May review and route routine planning documents, petitions, permits, packets and records; analyze environmental checklists and environmental information forms and make specific recommendations following department procedures;
• May assist professional and technical staff with special projects including surveying, data gathering and reporting, analyses and computerized report presentations;
• May respond to basic inquiries from the general public and resolve issues related to the City's planning and zoning procedures and specific permits; research and provide information to City staff and the general public regarding land use issues and standard environmental documentation;
• May perform a variety of activities relating to the development of financial and statistical reporting, including accumulating, analyzing and tracking of revenues and expenditures; analyzes financial trends and develops projections of costs and funding opportunities.
